Ms. Maxine Byrd, age 89, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Thursday, July 11th, 2013, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama.

Visitation, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13th, 2013, at the Norwood Funeral Home.  Funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13th, 2013, at the Norwood Funeral Home.  Bro. Steve Cantrell, Bro. Tim Markham and Bro. Edward Puckett officiating.  Burial in Carter Cemetery.  Pallbearers, Phillip McNees, Bill Bellan, Gary Hyden, Brooks Markham, Jr. Markham, Matthew Bellan, Michael Hyden and Larry Cox.

Ms. Byrd was born January 28th, 1924, in Detroit, Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Ben Milton and Willie Elvira Carruth Markham. She was a life long resident of Lamar County and was a member of the Sulligent First Free Will Baptist Church. Maxine had retired from McCoy Manufacturing as an inspector.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Cathy (Dale) McNees of Millport, Alabama; 2 sons, William Edwin (Mary Deweese) Byrd of Northport, Alabama, and Randal Rodney (Josephine) Byrd of Jasper / Vernon, Alabama; 2 grandchildren, Sherry (Bill) Bellan of Northport, Alabama, and Phillip (Crystal) McNees of Millport, Alabama; 2 step-grandchildren, Amy (Patrick) Plourde of Hoover, Alabama, and Charles (Tracey) Northam of Cumming, Georgia; 8 great-grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law, Pauline Markham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Milton and Willie Elvira Carrouth Markham; her husband, William Rufus Byrd; 1 grandson, Derek Dale McNees; 2 sisters; and 6 brothers.

Mr. Joe Mike Taylor, age 59, of Beaverton, Alabama passed away Friday, August 10th, 2012 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama.

Visitation, Funeral service, 2:00 p.m, Monday, August 13th, 2012 at the Beaverton Baptist Church.  Bro. Danny Stanford officiating.  Burial in the Sizemore Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor was born December 8th, 1952 in West Point, Mississippi, to Frances Louise Sizemore Taylor the late Joe Max Taylor.  He had lived in Beaverton the past 29 years and attended the Beaverton Baptist Church.  He had served in the National Guard and worked at NACCO and was a member of the Elks Club.  He loved collecting old coins and other old collectables and fishing.  He also enjoyed shooting pool with his grandson.

He is survived by 1 daughter, Kimberly (Tony) Smith of Sulligent, AL.; his mother, Frances Louise Sizemore Taylor of Sulligent, AL.; 1 grandson, Zachery Halynn Smith; 2 step-grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Berger and Ashley Faye Smith; and a step-great-grandchild, Ariel Paydon Berger.

Dora Belle Hulsey, age 84, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, June 26th, 2012, at Generations in Vernon, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, June 29th, 2012, at the Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at Otts Funeral Home Chapel.  Bro. Edward Puckett officiating.  Burial in Pope Cemetery.  Pallbearers, Cory Flippo, Aaron Hulsey, Walt Larisey, Dennis Sanchez, Bobby Swinsick and Rob Holliday.

Ms. Hulsey was born August 17th, 1927 in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late William B. and Mary Anna Gibbs Eastman.  She was a member of Union Ridge Freewill Baptist Church.  Ms. Hulsey worked for over 40 years at McCoy Mfg. in Sulligent, AL.  She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Linda (Earnest) Flippo, Sulligent, AL., Barbara (Dean) Donnelly, San Jose, CA., and Judy (Richard) Miller, Sacramento, CA.; 1 son, Johnny (Teresa) Hulsey, Sulligent, AL.; 1 stepson, Harold LLoyd (Annie Paige) Hulsey, Hamilton, AL.; 1 sister-in-law, Mavis Eastman, Haleyville, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Christy (Dennis) Sanchez, Cory Flippo, Dusty (Denise) Miller, Amber (Walt) Larisey, Aaron (Ashley) Hulsey and Aeriel (Bobby) Swinsick; 2 step-grandchildren, Harold Wayne (Janice) Hulsey and Patricia (Marty) Tate; and 7 great-grandchildren, Jake Flippo, Kaitlyn Miller, Camaryn Sanchez , Luke Larisey, Lily Hulsey, Samantha Miller, and John Cole Larisey

She was preceded in death by her parents, William G. and Mary Anna Eastman; her husband, Cecil Mitchell Hulsey; 5 brothers, Demp Eastman, Martin “Dock” Eastman, Denson “Dick” Eastman, Marvin Eastman, and Alberton Eastman; and 1 great-grandchild, Matthew Miller.

Ms. Egger was born December 20, 1919 in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Robert Lee and Verona Loggins Moore.  She was a member of Prospect Primitive Baptist Church.  Ms. Egger previously worked at McCoy Mfg.  She enjoyed gardening and flowers, most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by 2 sons, Chester (Linda) Egger, Vernon, AL., and Roger (Carolyn) Egger, Sulligent, AL.; 2 daughters, Manda (Jay) Pennington, Vernon, AL., and Linda Egger Huguley, Vernon, AL.; 7 grandchildren, Robert (Jo) Pennington, Tammie Pennington, Beverly (Chip) Parsons, Dianne Jones, Misty (Terry) Woods, Johnathan (Heidi) Egger and Lisha (Riley) McDonald; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Verona Moore; her husband, Greely Redden Egger; 5 brothers, John Moore, Murry Moore, Paul Moore, Robert Moore and Earl Moore; and 6 sisters, Allie Eastman, Paralee Eastman, Maude Comer, Lucy Moore, Rose Murphy and Myrtle Dickerson.

Annette Gideon Taylor, age 86, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point, Mississippi.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, June 8th, 2012, and throughout the day on Saturday until service time at 3:00 p.m.  Funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at Freewill Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.  Burial in Wofford Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers: Adam Fiske, Ken Phelps, Mike Gideon, Kyle Lucas, Chris Smith & Tim Wilson.  Honorary Pallbearers: Elijah Fiske & Bill Duke.

Ms. Taylor was born August 10, 1925 in Monroe County, Mississippi to the late Woody Macon and Lena Irvin Faulkner Gideon.  She was a member of Freewill Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully to the Ladies Auxiliary and faithfully attended Sunday school and church.  Ms. Taylor worked for several years at McCoy Manufacturing and at the Cafeteria at Vernon Hospital until her retirement.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, going to singings, quilting and shopping.  Ms. Taylor always served in her community helping elders.

She is survived by 1 son, Donald R. (Noble) Taylor, Vernon, AL.; 4 grandchildren, Deborah (Ken) Phelps, Daphine Taylor, April (Adam) Fiske, & Breann Taylor; 6 great-grandchildren, Kyle (Toshia) Lucas, Kamie Lucas, Angel Coker, Harley Glasgow, Elijah Fiske & Emma Fiske; and 1 brother, Edsel (Judy) Gideon, Vernon, AL;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Lena Irvin Faulkner Gideon; her husband, Brown Taylor; 1 brother, Buddy Gideon; 3 sisters, Eunice Eads, Billy Chism & Ailene Gilbreath.

Glenda Owens, age 48, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away Monday, June 4th, 2012 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, June 8th, 2012, at the Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 12:00 Noon, Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at Westside Church of Christ, where the body will lie-in-state at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 Noon.  Burial in Shiloh Cemetery on McGill Gin Road.  Pallbearers: Keyair Harrington, George Spratt, Markei Spratt, Glenn Rashad Owens, Eric Dontay Owens, Jerome Coleman, Trey Salters, Demario Salters & Perry Morrow.

Ms. Owens was born March 10th, 1964 in Amory, Mississippi, to Betty Salter Harrington and the late Annias Owens.  She was a member of Westside Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School.  Ms. Owens was a 1983 graduate of Lamar County High School.  She enjoyed taking care of children and was a volunteer at Head Start.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Harrington, Vernon, AL.; her step-father, James Hutchinson, Vernon, AL.; her grandmother, Nettie Salters, Hamilton, AL.; 1 son, Kennith Gardner, Detroit, AL.; 1 daughter, Jeana Gardner, Vernon, AL.; 2 grandchildren, Akoya Gardner & Trinity Johnson; 2 brothers, Glenn (Mary) Owens, Vernon, AL., and Christopher Harrington, Vernon, AL.; 2 sisters, Sharon Spratt, Vernon, AL., and Toretta Owens, Vernon, AL.; and several aunts, uncles, other relatives & friends.

Mr. James Junior “Jamie” Tuck, age 59, of Beaverton, AL, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Generations of Vernon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Barnesville Cemetery. Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Mike Franklin will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.
Pallbearers will be: Brandy Crow, Gary Watson, Herlen Taylor, Tony Woodruff, Agee McRenolds, Steve Nix, and Rodney Watson.
Tr. Tuck was born on January 1, 1953 in Marion County, AL to the late Raymond and Elzie Carter Tuck. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith. Mr. Tuck enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to church and going to work. Mr. Tuck also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music and taking care of his dogs.

Deborah Ann Kittrell, age 58, of Sulligent, Alabama passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her residence.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Norwood Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Mt. Hebron Methodist Church.  Bro. Stephen Cantrell officiating.  Burial in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Ms. Kittrell was born in Michigan to the late Robert Francis Lulfs and Barbara Ann Ladd Lulfs. Deborah was of the Catholic Faith and had lived in the Sulligent area since 1981. She had worked for Glenn Enterprise and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Kittrell of Sulligent, AL.; her mother, Barbara Ann Lulfs of Port Charlotte, FL.; 1 daughter, Alyssa (Kevin) Brown of Caledonia, MS.; 2 sons, Patrick Kittrell and Matthew (Nichole) Kittrell all of Guin, AL.; 1 sister, Pamela Bass of Port Charlotte, FL.; 2 brothers, Tim Lulfs of Austin, TX., and Scott Lulfs of Jupiter, FL.; 4 grandchildren, Tanner Jacobs, Abby Jacobs, Ashlyn Jacobs and Ivan Kittrell; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Francis Lulfs and Barbara Ann Ladd Lulfs.

Mrs. May was born December 24, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Marvin and Eleanor Russell Marsh. She was a member of Mulberry Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. May was married for 57 years to Robert May. She enjoyed fishing and taking care of her grandchildren.

Ronnie Smith age 56, of Sulligent, Alabama passed away Sunday, May 6th, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8th, 2012, at the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial in the Love Joy Cemetery, Beaverton, Alabama.  Bro. Robert Stamps officiating.

Mr. Smith was born in Amory, Mississippi, August 16, 1955, to the late Walter and Eva Maples Smith.  He worked as a carpenter and was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed hunting, Alabama football, and watching NASCAR.  He will be missed by dear friends Ricky Merchant, Keith Miller, Kenny Jordon, and many others.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Smith; 2 sons, Cody Smith and Kiley Smith, of Sulligent, AL.; 3 sisters, Peggy Stanford, Fayette, AL., Jackie Smith, Vernon, AL., and Kathey Gee,New Hope, MS.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Eva Maples Smith; 1 son, Ryan Patrick Gosa; 1 brother, Ricky Smith; and 1 niece, Carly Smith.
