Mamie Norma Woodham Evans, age 96, of Eustis, Florida (Formerly of Hamilton, Pea Ridge, Marion County, Alabama), passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at Lake Eustis Care Center, Eustis, Florida.

Visitation and viewing, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Fulton Bridge Baptist Church.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the church.  Burial in Fulton Bridge Cemetery, Hamilton, Alabama.  Flowers or contributions can be sent to Fulton Bridge Baptist Church, P.O. Box 125, Hamilton, Alabama  35570, located off County Road 35 “River Road”, on County Road 55.

(Mamie Norma Woodham Evans, 96, was born May 27, 1915, in Pea Ridge, Marion County, Alabama.  Norma was a resident of Yalaha, Florida, and passed away from this life Monday, November 28, 2011.  Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Sam Evans, daughter, Louise McCracken, grandson Samuel McCracken, and all of her siblings; Oscar Woodham, Maudie Holcomb, Marie Woodham, and Dorothy McCracken.  Norma leaves two sons, John Ralph (Julia) Evans and Charles Donald (Alice) Evans, and one son-in-law George McCracken.  Norma was the daughter of John and Emma Woodham, the seventh of eleven children.

Norma leaves seven grandchildren; Tony Evans, Terry (Taryn) Evans, Thea (Bradley) Nix, Carol (Ken) Hilbert, Elizabeth (John) Knight, and Shawn (Lori) Evans, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Norma was baptised into the Baptist Church at age 15.

Norma was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; her children and family were the light of her life.  Norma was a hard worker; She worked on farms, in garment plants, grew gardens, cooked delicious food, and made beautiful things with her hands for her family.  Norma lived through many illnesses, cancer, and lived life to the fullest every day.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at Fulton Bridge Baptist Church on Saturday, December 3, 2011; viewing 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.; funeral services 2:00 p.m.  Flowers or contributions can be sent to Fulton Bridge Baptist Church P.O. Box 125, Hamilton, Alabama  35570, located on CR 55 near CR 35.)*

“DD” Dexter Dean Real, age 89, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011, at the Marion Regional Medical Center in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at the Hamilton First Baptist Church in Hamilton, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the church, following visitation.  Eddie Davidson officiating.  Burial in Kingsville Cemetery, Detroit, Alabama.

(Dexter Dean or “D.D.” was born August 11, 1922 to Murrah Hudson Real and Melverdia Ballard Real.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers James Middleton Real, Leeburn Real, John Henry Real and his sisters Annie Lee Lawler and Nellie Mae Lindsey.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Billie Fay Norton Real, daughter Lanetta (Ron) Phillips, son Kenneth (Brenda) Real, granddaughter Hannah Real and grandson Matthew Real.

“D.D.” was a graduate of Hamilton High School and attended Florence State College until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 during World War II as a combat Military Policeman.  He landed on Normandy Beach three days after the initial attack.  He was on the Philippine Islands and felt the Hiroshima Bomb when it was dropped on Japan in 1945.  He received several medals for his military service medals for his military service.

When he returned home from the war he started “D.D. Real’s Rolling Store.”  He had a different route each day and traveled both Marion and Lamar Counties and was known by many as “The Peddler”.  During this time he met and married his wife Billie Fay Norton on June 8, 1946.

In 1948 he built “D.D. Real’s General Merchandise Store” at the corner of Highway 19 and Karr Road.  His slogan was “A Square Deal at Real’s.”  He operated “The Rolling Store” until the mid-1960’s and “The Merchandise Store” until 1974.

In 1962 he bought the bowling center in Hamilton, Alabama which he operated until 1975.  In 1976 he became the Marion County Emergency Management coordinator which he retired from at the age of 80 in 2002.

During all this time he also farmed raising corn, cotton, hogs and cattle.*)

Eloise Baggett Parker, age 90, of Guin, Alabama, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Marion County Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation only (No Funeral service), 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, Hamilton, Alabama.  Burial in Baggett Cemetery in Franklin County, Alabama.

Ms. Parker was born October 2nd, 1921, in Franklin County, Alabama, to James Yancy and Leona McKinney Baggett.  She was a retired Garment Factory Worker.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Josie Gray; 1 grandson, Shane; 4 great-grandchildren, Harley, Allison, Austin, and Isaac; 1 sister-in-law, Mamie Lou Baggett; and a host of nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Yancy and Leona McKinney Baggett; 1 granddaughter, Michelle Hendershott; 6 brothers, Robert, Willie, Grady, Claudie, Warren G., and Eugene Baggett; 5 sisters, Lorene Holcomb, Ernestine Scott, Nova Scott, Bernice Britnell, and Evelyn Allbright.

He is survived by his parents, Keith and Linda Johnson Davis; 3 brothers, Matt Davis, Chris Davis, and Chad Hughes; his grandmother, Mary Frances Johnson; 2 nephews; and 1 niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harlon Johnson, and Charles and Mamie Davis.

James Timothy “Tim” West, age 52, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011, at his residence.

He was born July 12, 1963, in Fayette, Alabama, to Rayford Harkness and Thelma Rainwater Harkness Reid.

He is survived by 1 son, Jeremy Harkness; his mother, Thelma Rainwater Harkness Reid; 3 brothers, Phillip Harkness, Raynard Harkness and Michael Harkness; 1 sister, Angie Hodges; 2 nephews, Jonathan and Oliver Ray; and 1 niece, Lydia; and a host of friends.
