Billy Carroll Paul, Sr., age 83, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011, with his family at his side, after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Sulligent First Baptist Church.  Bro. Byron Pickering and Jeff Chaffin officiating.  Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery, Sulligent, Alabama.

Mr. Paul was a native of the Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama area.  “Billy was an all around athlete at Sulligent High School participating on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He spent is first year of college at East Mississippi Junior College playing on the football team. He then attended Mississippi State University as a scholarship member of the baseball team. After graduation he entered the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant and served a tour in Korea. Following military service, he was employed by Frigidaire and General Electric companies in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1970 he returned to his native Sulligent to work as Personnel Manager for Hyster Company. Billy was an avid golfer and, after retirement, continued his lifelong interest in all sports, particularly following all of the MSU athletic teams.

Billy was inducted into the Lamar County Sports Hall of Fame in August 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulligent and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on various committees. He served as a member and President of the Sulligent Chamber of Commerce, President of Sulligent United Drive, and a Board Member of the First National Bank.*”

He is survived by his wife, Martha Pennell Paul, Sulligent, AL.; 1 sister, Joan Paul, Knoxville, TN.; 1 son, Billy C (Wanda) Paul Jr., Wren, MS; 1 daughter Jill (Billy) Maddox, Sulligent, AL.; 4 grandchildren, Billy C. Paul, III “Trey” and Victoria Paul both of Knoxville, TN., Justin Maddox, Tuscaloosa, AL., and Courtney Maddox, Charlotte, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Victor C. Paul and Pauline Gilmer Paul.

Mr. Roger Hubbert – Age 73 – Winfield, AL
(November 8, 1938 – December 23, 2011)

Roger Hubbert, age 73, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away December 23, 2011 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Visitation, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. until service time, Monday evening, December 26, 2011, at the Winfield Church of Christ, Winfield, Alabama.  Funeral service, 7:00 p.m., Monday night, December 26, at the Winfield Church of Christ.   Burial following Tuesday, December 27, 2011, in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win, Alabama. James Wyers, Vance Hutton, and Dale Hubbert officiating.  Pallbearers, Keith Dillard, Wes Hubbert, Chad Lawrence, Lathan Lawrence, Bryan LeMasters, Doug Gullion, Sam Gullion, Drew Gullion, Frank Hubbert, and George Hubbert.

Mr. Hubbert was born November 8, 1938, in Hubbertville, Alabama, to Tommy and Gladys Hubbert.  He graduated from Winfield High School in 1957, and attended Freed Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee from 1957 until 1959.  Mr. Hubbert began working for Continental Conveyor and Equipment in 1961 until his retirement in 2002.  He was a faithful Minister of the Gospel for almost 50 years and was currently the minister of Brock Church of Christ at the time of his death.*

He is survived by his wife, Pat Hubbert of Winfield; 2 children, Dale (Cindy) Hubbert, Priceville, AL., and Rogena (Keith) Dillard, Winfield, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Whitney (Chad) Lawrence, Decatur, AL., Katie (Doug) Gullion, Somerville, AL., Wes Hubbert, Decatur, AL., Allyson (Bryan) LeMAsters, Madison, AL., Julie Hubbert, Priceville, AL., and Karla Dillard, Winfield, AL.; 5 great-grandchildren, Lathan, Macy, and Amelia Lawrence, and Sam and Drew Gullion.

Ms. Gwen Hamilton Weaver, age 98, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at her residence.

Visitation, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Marion County Funeral Home. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Marion County Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.  Bro. Billy Weems & Bro. Ted Burleson officiating.

Ms. Weaver was born Friday, December 12, 1913, in the Smyrna community in Marion County, Alabama to William Joseph and Lula Belle Harris Hamilton.  She was a Homemaker and, in earlier times, helped her husband, Clarence, at their store, Weaver’s Hardware, on the Court Square in Hamilton, Alabama.

She is survived by 2 sons, Bill (Betty) Weaver, and Tom Weaver; 1 daughter, Jane Weaver (Rick) Chambless; 5 grandchildren, Sharon Weaver Lindley, Judy Weaver (Danny) Miller, Mary Weaver (David) Meyer, Ricky (Krista) Chambless, and Chris (Elisha) Chambless; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clarence A. Weaver; her parents, William Joseph & Lula Belle Hamilton; 4 brothers, Clovis Hamilton, Talmadge Hamilton, Martin Hamilton, and Joe Hamilton; 4 sisters, Gloe Lindsey, Mary Lou Cantren, Jewel Patterson, and Fanny Bell Boyett.

Marshall Foch Burleson, age 81, of Pence, Indiana passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana.

Visitation, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011 at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, Indiana.  Funeral service following visitation, 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Rev. Don Williams officiating.  Burial in Jordan Cemetery in Pence, Indiana.

Mr. Burleson was born October 17, 1930 in Hamilton, Alabama. He was the son of Fred D. and Willie Lillie Smith Burleson. He attended  School and Buttahatchee School in Hamilton, Alabama. He married Barbara Ann Manus in Williamsport, IN. Tuesday, October 20, 1953. She preceded him in death on September 28, 1999. He was born and raised in Alabama until moving to Indiana where he lived in Romney and later Warren County, Pence from 1963 until 2006 when he moved to Williamsport, IN. to live with his son, Mark L. Burleson and his family. In 2007 he became a resident of the Waters of Covington, Covington, IN. until 2009 when he moved to the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, IN.  When he lived in Alabama he farmed and in Warren County he worked for Mehaffey and Martin Farms. He loved fishing, gardening, yard work, and feeding the birds. He enjoyed collecting anything and everything.

He is survived by 2 sons, Mark L. (Melody) Burleson of Williamsport, IN. and Matthew D. (Kathleen) Burleson of Danville, IL; 1 sister, DeLois Foxworthy of Richmond, VT.; 1 brother, Howard D. (Glenda) Burleson of Pea Ridge, AR.; 5 grandchildren, April Hudson, Nikki Burleson, Tish Stevenson, Katrina Funnell and Bridget LeBlanc; and 6 great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Stevenson, Sabrina Mason, Aja Mason, Osiris Rish, Thaddeus Rish, and Leonidas Rish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred D. and Willie Lillie Smith Burleson, 2 brothers, George “Bill” Burleson and James Willard Burleson; and 1 sister, Joyce Britton.

Catherine “Rene” Tyra, age 93, of Hackleburg, Alabama, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, at her residence.

Ms. Tyra was born June 20, 2011, in Franklin County, Alabama, to the late Thomas and Missouri Peppers Cagle.  She was retired as Supervisor of Environmental Services at Oakland University in Auburn Hill, Michigan.

She is survived by 3 children, Christina Brannon, Barbara Tyra, and Ron Tyra; 4 grandchildren, Sharon (Pick) Davis, Patricia (David) Hansen, Alan Brannon, and Mark Brannon; 6 great-grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Harris, Kelli Hansen, Laura Hansen, Emelie Brannon, Zachary Brannon, and Bella Brannon; 2 special care-givers, Donna Bowens, and Sheila Cooper; 2 brothers, A.J. (Lora) Cagle, and Freddie (Betty) Cagle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Missouri Peppers Cagle; and her husband of 75 years, Luther Elmon Tyra.

Jerry of Hamilton, Alabama, and Millie Sue Manscill Creamer and her husband, Julian of Milner, Georgia; and 1 son, James Talmadge Manscill and his Carolyn of Hamilton, Alabama; 1 sister, Dean Teague and her husband, Brooks of Grand Prairie, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Paul Anthony Gunnels, age 52, of Odessa, Texas (formerly of Winfield, Alabama) passed away Friday, December 9, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral services were privately held.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel And Crematory , Odessa, Texas.

Mr. Gunnels was born November 27, 1959, in Winfield, Alabama, to Junior Robert Gunnels and Nettie Taylor Gunnels.  He was an electrician.  Paul married Terrie D. Harrell in Alabama, November 20, 1996.  He was a good-hearted, hard working man, who believed in living under the guidance of the Man Upstairs.  He was very smart and a jack-of-all-trades; he could do just about anything he set his mind to do.  He enjoyed gardening and loved animals.  The Gunnels family is a very close family and Paul was very close to his kids and grandkids.  He would French-braid the girl’s hair.  They always called him “Pop”.  Because he could always be counted on for a quick response to anything they needed, they say that “Snap Crackle Pop” describes him in a nutshell.

He is survived by his wife, Terrie Gunnels of Odessa, TX.; 4 daughters, Kisty Middleton of Odessa, TX., Bonnie Keneson and husband Jessie Allen of Odessa, TX., Sara Constantine and husband Dave of McCamey, TX., and Valerie Farek of Odessa, TX.; 2 sons,  Robert Dale Keneson and Mikey Lee Keneson, both of Odessa, TX.; 3 sisters, Vera Hill and husband Terry of Detroit, TX., Elsie Bates and husband Phil of Winfield, AL., and Lenora Hubbert of Fayette, AL.; 1 brother, David Gunnels and wife Ann of Hallsville, TX.; and 16 grandchildren.
