Mr. William P. “Bill” Mixon, age 65, of Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama, (formerly of Hamilton, Alabama) passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, in Columbus, Mississippi.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26th, 2012, at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, Mississippi. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27th, 2012, at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, Mississippi. Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery, Hackleburg, Marion County, Alabama. Pallbearers, John Partain, John Bolton, Ray Duncan, Carl Thornton, Tom Linn, and Wilburn Beatty. Mr. Mixon was born June 27th, 1947, in Russellville, Alabama, to the late Lecil Clyde Mixon, Jr. and Caroline Fite Mixon. He lived in the Molloy Community of Lamar County, Alabama. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965 and attended Northwest Alabama Junior College, in Phil Campbell, Alabama, where he met his future bride. He graduated from Mississippi State University. He served 7 years in the Alabama National Guard, was a member of the Teamsters Union, and retired as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightway after 30 years of service. He was a member and past Master of Columbus Lodge #5 F&AM, a member of Scottish Rite and York Rite Masonic Bodies, Order of Eastern Star, and Vernon Masonic Lodge #389, Vernon, Alabama. He was a member of Southern Cruisers Car Club of Columbus, Mississippi, and the Lamar County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Lamar County Sons of Liberty SAR, where he held various offices. Mr. Mixon was a member of Border Springs Baptist Church, Caledonia, Mississippi, where he served as a deacon and various other positions. He was also a Gideon. He was a frequent customer at local coffee shops, was an avid Mississippi State fan, and enjoyed riding in his antique cars in Christmas Parades and throwing out Christmas candy. He married Jackie Knight Mixon at Border Sprigs Baptist Church in Caledonia, Mississippi, December 23rd, 1973.

Mr. Mixon is survived by his wife, Jackie Knight Mixon, Sulligent, AL.; daughter, Emma Jane Mixon, Sulligent, AL.; 1 sister, Carrie Mixon Bolton, Hamilton, AL.; 2 nephews, John Bolton and Jeremy Jones; and 1 niece, Melissa Hatle.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Doyle Knight and mother-in-law, Alice Knight.

Ms. Doris Crump Stanford, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory, Mississippi.

Visitation, Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. (Noon) – 2:00 p.m., December 26th, 2012, at Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 at Norwood Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Alabama. Bro. Tim Markham officiating. Burial in Webb Cemetery, Lamar County, Beaverton, Alabama.

Ms. Stanford was born September 21st, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Ray and Vista Simpson Manning. She attended Massey Business School in Birmingham, Alabama and worked in various secretarial positions at Hayes Aircraft, the Selective Service Board, and Federal Mogul. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church since 1964 where she served in many capacities. Doris was a dedicated and loving mother to her only child, the late Paul Crump, Jr. She was a resident of the Sulligent area most of her life and was a lady with a beautiful smile and worthy character that will be missed by family and friends.*

She is survived by a very special daughter-in-law, Becky Strawbridge Crump of Aberdeen, MS.; 1 granddaughter, Christy (Jimmy) Godfrey of Tuscaloosa, AL.; 1 step-daughter: Becky Tucker of Vernon, AL.; 3 step-grandchildren, Jody Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, and Jason Perkins, all of Vernon, AL.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vista Simpson Manning; her husband, Paul Crump, Sr. and her husband, Harold Stanford; 1 son, Paul Crump, Jr.; 2 step-sons, Dennis Stanford and Johnny Perkins; 1 step-daughter Jeannie Perkins; and 1 step-grandson Johnny Perkins, Jr.

Ms. Sarah Ann Mobley, age 92, of Guin, Alabama, passed away in Mobile, Alabama on the evening of December 20th, 2012.

Visitation, 12:00 p.m. (noon) – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012, Guin First Baptist Church, Guin, Alabama. Ms. Mobley was born June 16,1920 in Franklin, Tennessee to the late Rev. James E. and Alice Gertrude Green McCluney, and the Wife of the late Claudie Lee Mobley to whom she was married for 51 years. She spent 43 years teaching in Marion County with the majority of her time at Marion County High School in Guin, Alabama, where she served as Beta Club Sponsor and also State Beta Club Sponsor. She was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, James L. (Laurie) Mobley, Mobile, AL.; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer (Jason) Harris, Denham Springs, LA.; Melinda Mobley Gant, Mobile, AL.; 3 great-grandchildren, Madalyn and Gabrielle Harris, and Hayden Gant; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James E. and Alice Gertrude Green McCluney; her husband, Claudie Lee Mobley; and 1 brother, George McCluney.

Mr. Steve Ballard, age 51, of Sulligent, Alabama (husband of Rhonda Ballard), passed away Friday, December 28th, 2012 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama.

Mr. Marion Miles Jr., age 71, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012, at his residence.

She is survived by her son, Benny (Francisca) Farrar, Nashville, TN.; daughter-in-law, Pat Farrar, Franklin, TN; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Hubert S. Greene, Rogersville, Al.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlos Farrar; son, Gary Dean Farrar; parents, Offie & Vesta Greene; and 1 brother, Lyman H. Greene.
