Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Martha Smith; 1 son, Billy Gene Smith; 4 sisters, Frances Liggett of Henderson, KY., Janie Craven of Nauvoo, AL., Loretta Miller of Hamilton, AL., and Wonda White of Jackson, S.C.; 1 brother, Oscar Smith of Jackson, S.C.; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Smith; 2 brothers, Billy Smith and Charlie Smith; and 1 sister, Rebecca Jordan.

Mr. J.A. Shackelford, 85 of Vernon, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 am from Vernon Full Gospel Worship Center with Bro. James Godsey officiating. Military honor graveside service and burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8pm.

Pallbearers: Randy Lockhart, Steve Lockhart, Johnny Boone, Delbert Vice, Tom Goodwin and Steve Madison.

J.A. was born September 13, 1927 in Columbus, MS to the late James Allen “Jim” and Edna Lenora “Nonie” Thomas Shackelford. He served in the US Army, was a US Air Force retiree and also was retired from Emerson where he worked as a machinist. J.A. enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wrestling, coin collecting and playing soliatre.
