Ms. Beulah Leona Mays Irvin, age 91, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, May 15th, 2013, at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17th, 2013, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Alabama.  Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17th, 2013, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Alabama.  Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery, Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama.

Ms. Irvin, born July 9th, 1921, was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Ray Irvin, (May 17, 1919 – March 11, 2008).*

Birmingham, AL – Mr. Donald “Don” Johnson, Sr., of Birmingham, AL, (Formerly of Hamilton, AL) passed away on May 14th, 2013 at age 68.

Don Graduated from Hamilton High school, Auburn University School of Engineering, and Southern Methodist University with a masters in biomedical engineering. He was one of the first biomedical engineers in the state and retired from the Veteran’s Hospital. He was a 20 year veteran of a barbershop quartet, traveling around the world entertaining. He was a lifelong musician, playing the trumpet in the United States of America High School Band, where he toured the US and Mexico, ending the tour with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. The most important thing to be said of him was what a great husband & father he was. His support for Chip and Doug was constant, undying and unequivocal. He supported them in the pursuit of their dreams, even when they weren’t sure what they were. In everything they took part in, their father was right beside them, coaching their sports teams, supporting the Shades Valley & Hoover Band programs, always having an open door policy at his home for all of the boys’ friends. His love, encouragement and wisdom will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father James Johnson, his mother Lucille Johnson, and his wife Mary Jane Owen Johnson.

Surviving are his sons Donald “Chip” Johnson, Jr. and Douglas Johnson, also his grandchildren Katie and Cooper Johnson, all of Birmingham, AL.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, Friday, May 17, 2013, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.

Homer_JeffMr. Jeff Kirk Homer, age 48, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 12th, 2013, at Athens Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14th, 2013, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15th, 2013, at the funeral home.  Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery, Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama.

Jeff was born August 24th, 1964 to Jimmy and Vester Gann Homer.

He is survived by his wife, April Pollock Homer; his mother, Vester Cooper; daughters, Candy (Gerald) Shivers, and Kayd Homer; son, Brandon (Melinda) Tucker; brothers, Tim Homer, Donnie (Leigh Ann) Cooper, and Tony Cooper; and grandchildren, Emma Miller, and Allye Miller; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Homer; sister, Patricia Ann Homer; grandparents, Fred and Etheline Homer, and Hop and Julia Gann.

Ms. Abbott was born April 12th, 1983, in Red Bay, Alabama, to Ricky Abbott and Tracy Thompson Hollie.  She was a College Student.

She is survived by her parents, Ricky Abbott and Tracy Hollie; 2 children, Zacheria Roby, and Brenna Roby; 2 step-children, Abigail Goodsen, and Farran Goodson; step-father, Joseph Hollie; step-mother, Fay Abbott; 5 sisters, Keila Vining, Lee Ann Hollie, Sabrina Abbott, Heather Hollie, and Kathy McKay; 4 brothers, Joseph Hollie, Andrew Abbott, Wayne Calvert, and John Calvert; grandparents, Rita Hall, and Gary Thompson; great-grandmother, Lessie Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Pearlene Abbott; and great-grandfather, George Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Webb; son, Dewayne Webb; 2 sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Webb McGuffie, and Dora Lee Webb Jones; sisters-in-law, Faye Webb, and Ann Webb; and a host of nieces and nephews; other relatives & cousins (including the author of these obituaries, Judy Webb Mays, he was my first cousin and I was proud to call him “cuz”); he also leaves many, many friends who will miss him greatly.
