Gladys Webb Morrow, age 101, of Guin, Alabama passed away Thursday, August 8th, 2013, at her residence.
Born in Henson Springs in Lamar County, Alabama, she was the last surviving of the 12 children born to Charles A. and Dora Ann Hilburn Webb. Mrs. Morrow lived in Lamar and Marion counties her entire life. Mrs. Morrow was a gentle lady of tremendous inner strength. She had a keen sense of interest in the lives of those she loved and was without fail a hospitable hostess to her guests. Always resourceful, she could produce a meal at a moment’s notice. Her blackberry jam cake was a trademark with many guests enjoying its flavor over the years. She liked to send along goodies as guests departed – just considered it a joy. Mrs. Morrow’s focus was on details as evidenced by her memory of birthdays of numerous nieces and nephews and her recording of daily events in her journals. Humble by nature, Mrs. Morrow was a Christian of deep faith. She was a member of Webb Baptist Church where her burial took place.
Survived by children: Lanetta Crowe (Jimmy) of Northport, Alabama, Dwight Morrow (Mary Dayton) of Hartselle, Alabama, step-daughter Audine Jordan of Vernon, Alabama, step daughter-in-law Eunice Morrow of Prairie, Mississippi, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents: Charles A. and Dora Ann Hilburn Webb, her husband: John W. Morrow, 1 son: Thurmon Morrow, 3 stepsons: Xavier, Cleo, and Jack Morrow, 1 step daughter-in-law: Mary Kate Morrow, 1 step son-in-law: Bernard Jordan, 1 grandchild: James Jordan, 1 great grandchild: Jana Ballew, and 11 siblings.
Services will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Webb Cemetery. Dr. Charles Ballew officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Morrow, Harold Jordan, Kenny Morrow, Johnny Morrow, Ken Byars, Tim Crowe, Drew Morrow, Robert Summerford, and Phillip Summerford.
Honorary pallbearers will be the dedicated caregivers who have helped Mrs. Morrow over the years, the employees of Marion County Home Health and Hospice of Northwest Alabama.
