Ms. Velma L. Putman Baker, age 83, of Adrian, Michagan, formerly of Hodges, Alabama, passed away September 14, 2013 at Promedica Bixby Hospital in Adrian, Michigan.
Visitation, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Hamilton, Alabama. Funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 16th, 2013 at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Old Line Cemetery.

Velma L. Baker
Velma L. (Putman) Baker, 83, passed away Saturday morning, September 14, 2013, surrounded by family at ProMedica Bixby Hospital. She was born on January 12, 1930, in Hodges Alabama. The daughter of John and Eva (Engle) Putman. She attended school in Hodges Alabama. On February 2, 1946, she married Daniel A. Baker in Hodges AL. In 1053, they moved their family to Adrian. Dan preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1973.
Velma adored her family and loved spending time with them. She was blessed to witness the fifth generation of her family begin. She retired from Bixby Hospital’s Food Service after 15 years of service. She attended the Adrian Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends. Velma is survived by her sons, Dan (Joyce) Baker of Adrian, Steve (Cheryl) Baker of Wayland MI, Mike Baker of Hendersonville TN. Sisters, Vela Cantrell and Exie Nichols of Hodges AL, Grandchildren, Pam (Lee) Skarha of Adrian, Jeremy (Becky) Baker of Houston, TX, Matt Baker and Nick Baker of Wayland MI and Rachel Baker of Hendersonville TN. Great grandchildren, Samantha (Jeremiah) Palmer of Hamilton, AL, Heather Skarba of Hillsboro MO, Becky (Jeff) Weiss of Adrian, Madison and Makayla Jane Baker of Wayland, MI, Henry Baker of Houston, TX and Great-great Grandchildren, Morgan and Ethan Palmer of Hamilton, AL and Caylee Weiss of Adrian and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dan, Velma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Putman, and brothers Loy, Hansel, and Paul.
Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian MI from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Visitation will also take place on Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Hamilton Alabama from 1-3 p.m. To be followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. Interment will be at the Old Line, Hodges, AL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Church of Christ or the Mount View Church of Christ, Hodges. Envelopes are available at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
