Mr. Billy Bibb Harris, age 79, of Sheffield, Alabama, formerly of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at Terrace Manor, Sheffield Alabama.

Visitation, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013, at the Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton, Alabama. Funeral service at 2:00 p.m., following visitation, in the funeral home chapel. Burial in Smyrna Cemetery. Bro. Scott & Bro. E.H Peterson officiating.

Mr. Harris was born in Marion County, AL on Saturday, September 29, 1934 to Richard Benton and Minnie Rae Avery Harris.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Mary Nell ( E.H. ) Peterson, and Donna Lee Harris; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willeen Mooreland Harris; his parents, Richard Benton and Minnie Rae Harris; 1 brother, Raymond Harris; and 2 sisters, Tommie Lou Hall, and Maude Francis Housh.

Harold (“Slick”) Prothro, age 64 of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Tuesday morning, October 29th, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at 2:00 pm from Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Kingsville Cemetery. Bro. James Austin will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8pm.

“Slick” was born December 8, 1948 in Lamar County, AL to Gaythel King Prothro and the late Ernest Prothro. He attended and graduated from Sulligent High School in 1967. Previously he worked for United Gas, Dowdle Gas and Reltoc Manufacturing. In his spare time he enjoyed farming and hunting.

Survived by his Mother, Gaythel Prothro; Sister, Cynthia (Steve) Morton, Sulligent, AL.; 2 Nephews: Eric (Crystal) Cantrell, Detroit, AL., and Randall (Robbie) Cantrell, Sulligent, AL.

Ms. Rachel Estella Barnes Thornton, age 97, of Haleyville, Alabama, passed away Friday, October 25th, 2013, at Rose Manor in Haleyville, Alabama.

Visitation, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 30th, 2013, at the Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama.  Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., following visitation, at the Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville.  Burial in Tharptown Cemetery.  Clinton Busler, Randy Nichols, and Stratton Barnes, officiating.  Pallbearers, grandsons and relatives.

Ms. Thornton was born July 4th, 1916 to John Howard and Laura Malone Barnes.  She was lifelong resident of Franklin County, Alabama, and a member of Russellville First Baptist Church. She was the eldest of 10 children. 

She is survived by 3 children, Annette (Billy) Sturdivant, Brenda (Troy) Oliver, and Kathy (Steve) Gray; 1 daughter-in-law, Sandra Thornton; 1 brother, Stratt Barnes; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Willie Thornton (Clanton) Hester, Kathy Barnes, and Bernice Barnes; 1 brother-in-law, Cecil Thornton; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Howard and Laura Malone Barnes; husband, Hubert John Thornton; 2 children, Paul Hugh Thornton, and Bobby Jo Thornton; 8 brothers and sisters, Zollie Barnes, Arland Jo Barnes, Retha Barnes Weems, Marie Barnes Porter, Jack Barnes, Wayne Lee Barnes, Bennie Barnes, and Patsy Barnes.

Mr. James Lowell Hamby, age 79, of Haleyville, Alabama passed away Sunday October 27th, 2013, at his home.

Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday October 29th, 2013, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, Alabama.  Funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Haleyville, Alabama.  Pastor Clint Knowles officiating.  Burial in Littleville Cemetery, Littleville, Alabama.

Mr. Hamby was born August 29th, 1934, to the late Leonard and Minnie Holcomb Hamby.  He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Hamby; 7 children, Shirley Cole, Linda Akers, Terry Hamby, Dianne Moorehead, Vern Hamby, David Hamby, and Tammy Cole; 2 sisters, Ona Mae Keller, and Carolyn Lewis; 4 brothers, Bud Hamby, Wayne Hamby, Neal Hamby and Roy Hamby; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Minnie Holcomb Hamby; and 3 brothers, Jack Hamby, Carl Hamby, and Russell Hamby.

Mr. Stone was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and was retired from Reynolds/Wise Alloys. He was a member, trustee, and usher chairman at First Free Will Baptist Church of Russellville and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.*

Visitation, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 28th, 2013, at the Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama.  Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 29th, 2013, at the Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, Alabama.  Bro. Ms. Katherine Ann Dodd Kelly, age 66, of Haleyville, Alabama passed away Monday, October 28th, 2013. 

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 29th, 2013, at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, Alabama. Funeral service following at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Bro. Jerry Boyles and Bro. Shawn Blanton officiating.  Burial in Concord Cemetery.

Ms. Kelly attended Haleyville Freewill Baptist Church and Concord Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Ofia Dodd; 2 children, Brandon (Jennifer) Kelly, and Tara Kelly; 1 sister, Shelia (Danny) Riddle; 2 brothers, Danny (Kim) Dodd, and Darryl (Kaye) Dodd; and 3 grandchildren, Logan, Layne, and Cole Kelly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Odie “Cotton” Dodd.

Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Partain, age 76, of Haleyville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, October 27th, 2013. 

Visitation, 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 30th, 2013, at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, Alabama.  Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., following visitation, at the funeral home.  Grandson, Pryce Bailey, son-in-law, Steve Bailey and Dr. Jim Cooley officiating.  Burial in Winston Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Partain served in the National Guard.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Haleyville, Alabama, and a retired Minister of the Gospel.  He had a Master’s Degree in Theology, and had pastored numerous church’s, those being:  Church of the Open Door, Antioch Baptist Church, Margaret Baptist Church and Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Drive Partain; 2 children, Albert Kenneth Partain, Jr., and Julia Ellen Partain Bailey; 2 sisters, Lavonne Baggett and Sara McJunkin; and 3 grandchildren, Pryce Bailey, Joshua Bailey, and Mackenzie Leigh Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Ottie Belle King Partain.

Mr. Robert Alton McGuire, R.Ph. age 83, of Guin, Alabama, passed away Friday, October 25th, 2013, at his residence.

Visitation, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27th, 2013, just prior to service time, at the Guin Church of Christ, in Guin, Alabama. Funeral service, 3: 00 p.m., Sunday, October 27th, 2013, at the Guin Church of Christ. Burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Justin Beard, Bill Rayburn and Don Williams, officiating.

Robert and his wife Mildred Davis McGuire owned and operated McGuire Drug in Guin for 43 years. He Graduated from Howard School of Pharmacy (now Samford University in Birmingham). He was an elder of Guin Church of Christ, a school trustee of Guin Schools and served as chairman of MCHS Community Library Board. He was a director of the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Board and was a director for Marion County Banking Company and Southtrust Bank. He was active in Marion County Medical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Davis McGuire; his children, Dr. Robert A. (Nancy) McGuire, Jr., of Jackson, MS., and Marcia McGuire (Tim) Franks, of Winfield, AL.; his grandchildren, Rob (Jackie) McGuire, Josh McGuire, Emily McGuire (Patrick) Journy, and Margaret Anne McGuire; and his great-grandchild Dani Kate Franks.
