May 20, 1940 – January 28, 2014
Mrs. Betty Woodham Hester Coomer, age 73 of Amory, MS, formerly of Sulligent, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members and friends at her residence Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from a battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 am from Otts Funeral Home Chapel with graveside service and burial to follow in Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Jeff Chaffin, Bro. Billy Ray Adams and Bro. James Godsey will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8pm.
Betty was born May 22, 1940 in Sulligent, AL to the late Veto and Annie Mae Merchant Woodham. She attended Greenwood Springs School and Sulligent Schools and was a graduate of Vaughn’s Beauty College. She worked as a Supervisor for Glenn Enterprises and later on Reltoc Manufacturing before she retired. Betty was full of life and energy, love, a personality that was to the point, and was always taking care of other’s needs before her own. After retirement she could be found relaxing on her back patio, sewing or doing needlework, working in her garden or yard or playing friends and family at a game of dominos (of which she always won) but received the most joy spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Sulligent First Baptist Church.

Grandchildren: Paige Harrison, Brysen & Slate Gilbert, Kohl & Billie Gilbert, Aleana Watson and Jayden Duncan

Samuel Norris Fowler, age 89, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Generations of Vernon. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 3:00 pm from Full Gospel Worship Center with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery in Crossville. Bro. James Godsey, Brian Ives and Devin Cantrell will officiate. Visitation will be at the worship center Friday afternoon from 2:00pm until service time at 3:00pm.
Samuel was born May 25, 1924 in Lamar County, AL to the late Van and Nora DuBose Fowler. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a truck driver. In his spare time he enjoyed playing dominos. Samuel was a member of Full Gospel Worship Center.

J. C. Scott, age 75 of Greenwood Springs, MS, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Community Hospice in Verona, MS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. from New Centerpoint Freewill Baptist Church, where the body will lie-in-state at the church from 2:00 until service time at 3:00 P.M. with burial to follow in Pickle Cemetery. Bro. Kelvin price and Bro. Bradley Long will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday evening
Pallbearers will be Joel Puckett, Chris King, Kevin McNeese, Anthony McNeese, Jimmy Pipkins, Johnny Hall, Bennie Grubbs, Paul Wade Hardin, and Jeremy Reed.
J.C. was born March 9, 1938 in Monroe County, MS to the late Willie R. and Verta Earline Goodwin Scott. He was retired from Glenn Enterprises after working there for 45 years. For enjoyment he fished and hunted. J.C. was a member of S&S Hunting Club. He also was a member of New Center Point Freewill Baptist Church.

Kenneth Garner was born February 6th, 1947 in Marion County, Alabama. He was a 1965 graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Alabama and served as a Hamilton Police Officer for some years before relocating to Northport, Alabama.  Kenneth was the son of the late Weston Police Chief, Dalton Toy “Dalt” Garner.  He was retired.
