Hattiesburg, MS (Detroit, AL) – Ms. Sarah Angelyn Pearce Irwin, age 82, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, formerly of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Sunday, February 16th, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22nd, 2014, at Friendship North in Detroit, Alabama. Burial in Friendship North Cemetery, Detroit, Marion County, Alabama.

*Sarah Angelyn Pearce Irwin was born on October 1, 1931, in Detroit, Alabama, and died on February 16, 2014, at her home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Mrs. Irwin was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Alabama, and Birmingham Baptist Nursing School in Birmingham, Alabama. While in nursing school, she met her husband, Dr. Alton Roland Irwin. They married in 1954 and lived in West Monroe, Louisiana until 2000 when they moved to Hattiesburg. Mrs. Irwin was a devoted volunteer with the March of Dimes, Junior Charity League, and the Boy’s Club, and she assisted her husband in his medical practice. Her most cherished calling, however, was that of wife and mother. She is survived by two daughters, Cherie Irwin of Monroe, Louisiana, and Renee Leigh and husband Dr. Joe Nick Leigh of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; son Dr. Roland Irwin and wife Britta of Wynne, Arkansas; grandchildren, Prentice Lenard and Hannah Irwin of Monroe, Louisiana; Angelyn Rogers and husband Brian, Sarah Catherine Leigh, Mark Leigh, and Caroline Leigh, all of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Daniel Leigh of Oxford, Mississippi; Brooke Smith and husband Charlie of Paragould, Arkansas; Alton Irwin of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren Daniel Irwin; James, Samuel, Grace, John, and Claire Renee Rogers; Irwin Leigh; Olivia Irwin and Brayden Smith. Pallbearers will be Prentice Lenard, Brian Rogers, Daniel Leigh, Mark Leigh, Charlie Smith, and Alton Irwin.**
