Reba S. Wheeler

In what we are sure was an incandescent release of grace and style our beloved wife and mother, Reba S. Wheeler, age 73 of Guin, AL left this earth on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at her residence. In talking with her she told us, and we quote, “I’m not afraid. It will be very bright and there will be golden retrievers everywhere swishing their tails.”

Visitation, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014, at Guin First Baptist Church until time of service. Memorial Services held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 12:00 noon from the Guin First Baptist Church with Bro. Kenny Hatcher officiating.

Born November 6, 1940 in Winfield, AL she is the daughter of the late Roston and Myrt Webster Spann. She had lived in Guin most of her life and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church and the En Avant Study Club.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Wheeler of Guin, AL, 2 daughters, Melissa “Missy” Miller of Hamilton, AL and Paige Elliott of Tuscaloosa, AL, a son, Keith Miller of Birmingham, AL, 5 grandchildren, Logan Elliott, Gracie Miller, Sara Miller, Olivia Miller and Avery Rose Elliott, 4 sisters, Bonnie Campbell of Livingston, AL, Alice Ann Robertson, Danny Spann and Judy May all of Winfield and a brother, Benny Spann of Winfield, AL and cousins, Vickie Cunningham, Pamela Foster, Brenda Fernety, Donna Stewart, Kelle Harrison, Sonya Branche, Sharon Gartrell, Jeff Robertson, Donald Campbell, Brian Campbell, Krista Mahler Robatzek and Wesley Hazel.

She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Polly Smith and Sarah Bull and a brother, Glen Spann.

Winfield, AL – Mr. George Maurice Haney, age 98, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away July 17th, 2014, at Kemp Meadows Assisted Living.

Visitation, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19th, 2014, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, following visitation, at the funeral home.  Bro. C.W. Box officiating.  Burial in the Winfield City Cemetery, Marion County, Alabama.

Mr. Haney was born July 21st, 1915 to the late George R. and Nanna Wolff Haney.  He was a Veteran of WWII and was an avid farmer.

He is survived by his son, Maurice (Carolyn) Haney, Columbus, MS.; grandchildren, Keith Haney of Corinth, MS., and Lyn Haney Thomas of Littleton, NH.; special caregivers, Judy Hubbert and Jane Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Maudine Regan Haney; his parents, George R. and Nanna Wolff Haney; and 1 brother, Robert Haney.*

Sulligent, AL – Ms. Linda Otts Reeves, age 65 of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 14th, 2014, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16th, 2014, at Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17th, 2014, at the Sulligent First Assembly of God Church.  Bro. Jerry Oaks and Bro. Ed Puckett officiating.  Burial in the Wofford Cemetery.

Ms. Otts was born March 18th, 1949 in Sulligent, Alabama to Willie Mae Black Otts and the late Clifford Lamar Otts.  She had lived in Sulligent most of her life. She loved working in her flowers, gardening, and caring for her family and grandchildren.  She was a member of the Sulligent First Assembly of God Church, had worked for Reltoc, and had retired from the Lunch Room in Sulligent.

She is survived by her husband, Brock Reeves; 2 sons, Farris (Kim) Reeves, and David Reeves; her mother, Willie Mae Otts Barnes; 2 grandsons, Landon Brock Reeves and Luke Banks Reeves; one brother, Ricky (Sharon) Otts; all of Sulligent, AL., and a host of nieces and nephews, other friends and relatives.

Hamilton, AL – Mr. Talmer Harris, age 90, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 14th, 2014, at his residence.

Geneva Scott, age 82, of Gattman, MS passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at her residence. Funeral arrangements are 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday July 7, 2014 from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Bro. Glenn Hughes and Bro. Robert Fowlkes officiating.
Geneva was born September 25, 1931 in Sumiton, AL to the late Thomas Wilson and Ila Love Camp Jenkins. She was a seamstress for the Garment Industry and had previously worked for Gattman Sportswear. Geneva was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist, and a member of the Gattman Homemakers Club. She enjoyed playing guitar and singing and word seek puzzles.
Survived by husband: Erie Scott of Gattman, MS Son: Jerry (Sandra) Scott, Nettleton, MS Daughter: Sherry Scott, Gattman, MS Brothers: James Jenkins, Hartselle, AL, Hershal (Doris) Jenkins, Humbolt, TN Sister: Elois (Dolan) Taylor, Belmont, MS Grandchildren: Angie Mahan, Kevin Malone, and Keri Dykes Great-Grandchildren: Kaitlyn Mahan, Jon Eric Dykes, Waylon Dykes, Jace Dykes, Andrew Malone, and Ansley Malone

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Sims; 1 daughter, Lisa (Larry) Wiginton; 1 grandson, Coby (Bethany) Wiginton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph Robert “Bobby” Holliday Jr., age 70, of Hamilton, Alabama, formerly of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 1st, 2014, at his residence.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday July 2nd, 2014, at the Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p. m., Thursday July 3rd, 2014, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic graveside services and burial in the Sulligent City Cemetery – Gilmer Addition. Bro. Todd Clippard and Rebel Silas, officiating. Pallbearers, Glenn Hogue, Rebel Silas, David Logan, Harold Taylor, Barron Wiginton, McDavid Franks and Sonny Nix. “Bobby” is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Flippo Holliday, Hamilton, AL.; 1 son, Joseph Robert Holliday, III (Lana), Hamilton, AL.; 2 grandsons, Joseph Reid Holliday and Robert Blake Holliday; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends.

Joseph Robert “Bobby” Holiday, Jr., age 70, better known as “Bobby” to his family and friends, and a wonderful “Poppy” to his grandsons, passed away July 1st, 2014, at his home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Bobby was born February 26th, 1944, in Fayette County, Alabama, to the late Joseph Robert “Joe Bob” and Elsie Holliday. He was a 1962 graduate of Sulligent High School and furthered his education by attending the University of Alabama, where he received a degree in Marketing and Finance. Bobby also attended The Cumberland School of Law, and served in the Army National Guard.
Bobby retired from Alabama Power after 39 1/2 years. He later served 3 years as Mayor of The City of Hamilton, where he worked diligently for the betterment of the community so that everyone would love to live in Hamilton and call it their home. Bobby was a member of The Board of Directors of Community Bank and Cadence Bank in Hamilton. He was one of the original members who was responsible for getting the Community Development Foundation organized. He was also a member of other various clubs and organizations.
