Detroit, AL – Mr. William Joseph “Billy” Cantrell, age 89, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, March 30th, 2016, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Visitation, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 1st, 2016, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, in Hamilton, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Friday, following Visitation, at the funeral home chapel.  Burial in Smyrna Cemetery, in Hamilton, (Byrd Community), Marion County, Alabama (MAP).

Mr. Cantrell was born December 31st, 2016, in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Festus Cantrell and Mary Lou Hamilton Cantrell.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne Jeffreys Cantrell; sons, Bruce (Eleanor) Cantrell, and Steve (Sheila) Cantrell; daughter, Egena (Ronnie) Sewell; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dwayne Karr; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by 1 son, Stevie Joe Cantrell; his parents, Festus and Mary Lou Hamilton Cantrell; brother, Leon Cantrell; and sister, Nixola Cantrell Karr.

Donald Byrd (1938 – 2016)

Saltillo, MS – On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2016, after a spectacular round of golf at the Pontotoc Golf Course, Donald Grey “Don” Byrd, 78, collapsed from an apparent heart attack and completed his earthly pilgrimage.

Don, an avid golfer and lover of the outdoors, was born on March 2, 1938, in Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama, to the late Woodrow Byrd and Trixie Fikes Byrd. A graduate of Hamilton High School, in Hamilton, Alabama, he lived most of his adult life in the Lee County, Mississippi area. Don was a master salesperson and worked for Malone and Hyde many years before retiring from the Martha White/Pillsbury Co. Don enjoyed his many friends, was a teller of tall tales, and a regular at the West Main Hardee’s morning coffee drinking group. A member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Don loved life, lived it fully, and will be sorely missed by family and especially his golfing buddies.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Marc Howard officiating. Private burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland, which is entrusted to assist the family.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Scott Byrd of Saltillo; his daughter, Susan Seeberger and her husband, Rob of Houston, Texas; a brother, Robert Byrd and his wife, Myra of Blairsville, Ga.; and his extended “in law” Scott family members; 1 paternal aunt, Willene Byrd Gann, of Hamilton, AL.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Buckner, Ricky Coker, Keith Grass, Louie Caldwell, Jimmy Guy McDonald, Donnie Crane, Danny Richardson and Todd Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Gatlin and his Hardee’s buddies.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 937 Mt. Vernon Rd, Tupelo, Mississippi 38804.

Vernon, AL – Beatrice “Bea” Peoples Reeves age 78 of Vernon, Alabama, formerly of Guin, Alabama, passed away Thursday, March 24th, 2016, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.

“Bea was born in Beaverton, Alabama, the daughter of the late James Floyd and Cora Carrouth White. She had lived in Guin and Lamar County, Alabama all of her life and was a member of the Guin First United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Crafts and Service Club. She had retired from Health Tex. She loved serving others by baking and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Reeves of Vernon, AL.; 2 sons, Wade (Tammy) Peoples of Guin, AL., and Greg (Dana) Peoples of Winfield, AL.; 1 step-daughter, Wendy Reeves of Huntsville, AL.; 1 step-son, Chris (Amy) Reeves of Trussville, AL.; 1 step-son-in-law, Neal Hall of Vernon, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Beau) Markham, Matt (Jessica) Peoples, Bethany (Nick) Clifton, Sam Peoples, Ann Elizabeth Davis, and Collins Davis; 3 step-grandchildren, Mary, Gracie and Micha Reeves; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Martha McReynolds, and Verla Stephenson both of Vernon, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Floyd and Cora Carruth; her husband, Jim Peoples; 1 step-daughter, Debbie Hall; 1 sister, Lottie Mae (Leon) White; and 1 brother, James Raymond White.

Services held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Guin First United Methodist Church with Burial in the Guin City Cemetery.Bro. Tim Alexander and Bro. Daniel Berry officiating.
