Editor’s note:

George Pearce was a soft-spoken and humble man who lived very quietly in Hamilton, Alabama. He was a country song writer, musician, and a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.* He received many awards for his music and songwriting. Just one song I know that he co-wrote with another Hamilton native songwriter and musician, Bud McGuire was “Red River“. It was the #4 song on Side A of “The Closer You Get”, the seventh studio album by country music band Alabama, released in 1983.** I wish I knew all the songs that he wrote or co-wrote. I will list them here if anyone wants to submit them to me at jmays@49countynews.net.

To George’s family I send my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. May God Bless and Keep you as you go through this dark time I pray that He will be with you as you adjust and deal with your loss.

From me:  George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. I have known George since we were both children in Hamilton, Alabama. I have known that George was ill for some time so I wouldn’t call him back to go through the pain he’d been suffering even if I could. But I will miss him. I’ll miss his deep, slow way of talking. I’ll miss running into him at the Post Office and grocery store. I will miss just knowing that he lived quietly only a couple of miles from me. I was proud to call him my friend. Love and respect, Judy Webb Mays
