Bio: Mary Ruth was born October 21, 1939, in Fayette County, Alabama to Eufaula Byron Dodson and Lucy Belle Byars Dodson. She was a 1958 graduate of Winfield City High School. Six days after graduation, Mary Ruth married the love of her life, Roger Adkins, on June 1, 1958. She was a homemaker for many years. She then worked at Munsingwear in Guin, Alabama, Bill Rayburn Insurance Agency, and the Plantation Steakhouse for over 20 years. Everyone spoke of her jovial personality, her funny stories, and her love for all people. She enjoyed church activities, the Red Hat Club, Sweet Adeline’s, playing Rook with her friends and spending time with her family at the lake. Mary Ruth loved to sing and was blessed with the unique talent of yodeling.

Bio: Born May 6, 1930 to Ulus Grant and Etma Langston McDonald, Harold McDonald was a 1948 graduate of Winfield City High School. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Mississippi State University and a degree in Agriculture from Auburn University. Harold was the Principle and teacher at Wayside School, he taught Ag / Shop at Winfield City High School and taught Sunday School at Wayside Methodist Church for many years. After thirty-one and a half years of being an educator, Mr. McDonald retired and took up fishing with his childhood friend and classmate, James Webster. Harold was an avid gardener, he could grow anything from vegetables to flowers, he enjoyed raising and showing horses, spending time with his family and telling stories to his grandchildren.*

Bio: Mr. Edwin Dale Brasher was born May 5, 1931 in Alabama to the late C.C. “Shorty” Brasher and Eunice Hubbert Brasher. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School. He attended college and played football at Holmes Community College. He was also a football Letterman at University of Tulsa, where he played in the Gator Bowl. At the University of Tulsa, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He earned his Master’s degree from University of Southern Mississippi. His Educational Specialist degree was achieved at Mississippi State University. He also served in the United States Army, reaching the status of First Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Unit. Mr. Brasher was a long-time educator and administrator in the Winfield City School System, and he was the athletic director and head football coach for the Pirates from 1965-1975. Mr. Brasher served as the Superintendent of Education for the school system from 1976 until his retirement in 2002. During his tenure as administrator, Winfield Area Vocational School was constructed in 1976, a new Winfield Elementary School was opened in 1985, Winfield Middle School was established in 1989, and a new Winfield City High School was built in 2002. While as the superintendent, Winfield City Schools stood as a flagship for other school systems in the state and nation. The school system was recognized by Governors Guy Hunt and Fob James. It ranked consistently in top 6 statewide in Stanford Achievement Test Scores during his administration. Additionally, Mr. Brasher has been named in the Mississippi Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951, Mississippi High School Football Hall of Fame in 1951, Mississippi High School Coach of the Year, Hines Community College Sports Hall of Fame, University of Tulsa Gator Bowl Team Hall of Fame, Alabama Association of School Administrators District VII President, Alabama Association of School Administrators Board of Directors, and Alabama Association of School Administrators Superintendent of the Year in 2001.*
