Sulligent, AL – Ms. Evell Hawkins, age 103, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 5th, 2015, at Generations of Vernon in Vernon, Alabama.
Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday Evening, February 6th, 2015, at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7th, 2015, at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent. Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial in Prospect Cemetery.
Pallbearers, David Davis, DeWayne Hawkins, Keith Stanford, Dennis Downey, Tanner Hawkins and Ryan Price.
Evell Ray was born July 24th, 1911, in Monroe County, Mississippi, to the late John Henry and Violet Wright Ray. She married John Edison “Pete” Hawkins June 1st, 1930. Evell worked over 20 years at McCoy Manufacturing as a seamstress. She attended Sulligent First Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed working outside with her flowers and gardening and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by 2 sons, Joe Mack Hawkins, Sulligent, AL., and Johnny Hawkins, Sulligent, AL.; 1 daughter, Wilma Stanford, Sulligent, AL.; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 1 niece, Jimmie Lou Dickey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Violet Wright Ray; her husband, John Edison “Pete” Hawkins; 1 daughter, Hilda Terrell; 1 granddaughter, Kathy Davis Jordon; 2 brothers, Henry Ray, and Orell Ray; 3 sisters, Annie Ruth Ray, Mary Lou Noe, and Jean Lewis; and 1 son-in-law, Alton Terrell.*
