Lonnie Sampson, Sr. of Moundville, Alabama.

Born:  April 9, 1941 in Cameron, West Virginia to Robert Sampson and Ruby Sampson and attended Cameron High School. He received his diploma at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Mr. Sampson served in the United States Army for 9 years and 9 months and was an employee at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steele in Wheeling, West Virginia for 14 years. He was also an employee at Ft. Gordon, Georgia, for 4 years and was a retired ISA Corps Engineer in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mr. Sampson was also a retired employee at Wholesale LP Transport for 17 years. He loved to mow grass, do woodwork, and work with his horse, Black Hawk.*

Age:  78

Died:  Sunday, December 15, 2019.

Visitation:  Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Funeral Service:  11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Birmingham, AL – Mr. Donald “Don” Johnson, Sr., of Birmingham, AL, (Formerly of Hamilton, AL) passed away on May 14th, 2013 at age 68.

Don Graduated from Hamilton High school, Auburn University School of Engineering, and Southern Methodist University with a masters in biomedical engineering. He was one of the first biomedical engineers in the state and retired from the Veteran’s Hospital. He was a 20 year veteran of a barbershop quartet, traveling around the world entertaining. He was a lifelong musician, playing the trumpet in the United States of America High School Band, where he toured the US and Mexico, ending the tour with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. The most important thing to be said of him was what a great husband & father he was. His support for Chip and Doug was constant, undying and unequivocal. He supported them in the pursuit of their dreams, even when they weren’t sure what they were. In everything they took part in, their father was right beside them, coaching their sports teams, supporting the Shades Valley & Hoover Band programs, always having an open door policy at his home for all of the boys’ friends. His love, encouragement and wisdom will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father James Johnson, his mother Lucille Johnson, and his wife Mary Jane Owen Johnson.

Surviving are his sons Donald “Chip” Johnson, Jr. and Douglas Johnson, also his grandchildren Katie and Cooper Johnson, all of Birmingham, AL.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, Friday, May 17, 2013, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.

James Verdo “Beau” Kilgore, III, age 38 of Pelham, Alabama passed away suddenly while at work on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Beau was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but had also resided in Germantown, Tennessee, New Orleans, Louisiana, and currently in Pelham, Alabama. He graduated from Shades Valley High School and was also a student of Jefferson State Community College and Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Louisiana. Beau had been in the tire industry for the last 15 years. He was employed by American Tire Distributors for the last 7 years and had recently been promoted to the position of Outside Sales Manager.

Beau was the son of the late James”Doodle” Verdo Kilgore Jr. and Lula “Lou” Griggs Kilgore of Pelham, Alabama. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Leighann Burrell Kilgore and his sister, Rachel Odelle Kilgore. He leaves behind his sister, Drucilla (Mauricio) Martinez, nieces, Kaitlin Marisa Bitz and Lucia (Luci) Rae Martinez and nephews, Corey Dell Kilgore and Alexander Diego Martinez. He will also be missed by a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins, many friends and coworkers.

Beau had overcome many setbacks in his life, starting with his developing juvenile diabetes and being insulin dependent at the early age of 6. He also suffered the loss of his leg due to an accident and the death of both his wife and sister, all in a three year time period. Beau managed not only to carry on but was able to hold down a full time job and be a caring brother and a loving, dependable son. He was also a loyal friend who enjoyed playing pool and a passionate LSU football fan.

Beau’s family will be receiving visitors on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 1:00 pm with a service following at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. He will be buried in the Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Don Dollar officiating.
