Obituary:

William Hall “Billy” Mitchell, a resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama since 1966, and born in Hamilton, Alabama.

Age:  75

Born:  November 21, 1943, in Hamilton, Alabama to the late Herbert Hall Mitchell and Audrey Taylor Mitchell.

Died:  Friday, May 3rd, 2019.

Memorial Service:  1:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Christ Episcopal Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation:  Following Service, in Randall Hall.

Survived By:

His Wife of 52 Years:  Joan Parsons Mitchell

Bio:  “Billy” Mitchell, age 75, was born in Hamilton, Alabama on November 21, 1943, to the late Herbert Hall Mitchell and Audrey Taylor Mitchell.  After finishing high school in Virginia in 1961, he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1965 with a B.S. degree in business administration and in 1983 he received a Masters of Tax Accountancy from the University of Alabama.

For many years, Billy was the principal owner of The Mitchell Company, a Tuscaloosa firm engaged primarily in providing business services and tax planning for small businesses. He mentored many business owners during his long career.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the United States Army Reserve. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He also was a member of the Jamestowne Society, the Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Order of the Southern Cross and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

Billy was an avid golfer; he loved quail hunting, sport shooting, and bird dogs. He also loved to entertain and was always the consummate host. Billy was the eternal optimist – never failing to see the potential in every business enterprise and the goodness in every person he met.  True to the Boy Scout’s oath, he was friendly, courteous and kind.

The family suggests memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to a favorite charity.*

Sulligent, AL – Mr. Hal Brown Jr., age 88, of Sulligent, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the residence. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2:00 pm from Sulligent First Baptist Church with graveside service and burial in Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Byron Pickering will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 12:00 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 217, Sulligent, AL 35586

Hal R. Brown, Jr. was born May 7, 1928, in Emelle, AL to the late Hal R. and Winnie Tidmore Brown, Sr. Hal was a graduate of Sulligent High School. Mr. Brown was worked as a railroad conductor. He was retired from Frisco Railroad which is now Burlington Northern. Hal was also a veteran of the US Army. He loved to take out his RV, fish and attend church. He was a member of Sulligent First Baptist Church.

Carthage, TN – Mr. Hurshel Wayne Wiginton, age 79, of Carthage, Tennessee, formerly of Hamilton, Alabama, and founding member of the singing group, The Nashville Edition, passed away Monday, March 6th, 2017, at his daughter’s residence.

Visitation, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9th, 2017, at Poplar Log Church in Hamilton, Alabama.  Funeral service, 12:00 Noon, Friday, March 10th, 2017, at the church. Burial in Poplar Log Cemetery in Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama.

Hurshel Wayne Wiginton was born in Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama, the son of the late Walter Booker and Velar Mitchell Wiginton.  He started out in gospel music and performed harmony on recordings in Muscle Shoals, Alabama (including the Percy Sledge hit “When a Man Loves a Woman”), and Memphis before moving to Nashville in the 1960s.*  His group, The Nashville Edition, performed as regular cast members of the television show, Hee Haw (1969 – 1997).

Hurshel is survived by his ex-wife, Doris Wilson Wiginton; his daughters Dana Jo Swafford (Greg Swafford), Tina ReShea Goodrow (Robert Goodrow) and Anna Peteese Wiginton; son Barry Sean Wiginton; grandchildren Blake Allen Simmons and Chancelor Adam Wiginton; great-granddaughter Brooklynn Capri Simmons; and siblings Adgil Marie Wiginton Lovett, James Edward Wiginton and Roger Dale Wiginton.

“Our favorite bass singer may no longer be with us but will live on forever in the music he recorded,” his family said in a statement. “He now will serve in the greatest group of all times as one of God’s angels.”**

img_1947APR 12, 1952 – JAN 31, 2017 – Bradford “Brad” McGuffie, age 64, of Pinson & Hamilton AL passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 after a courageous six year battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Helen Webb McGuffie.

He is survived by his three sisters, Paula Weems, Sheila Dewees, Angela (Steve) Wingard, his brother, Mark McGuffie, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at the Pinson Bicentennial Park, Saturday, February 18, 2017, 2:00 – 4:00 pm with the memorial at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve at 4:30 pm at the Falls. Bro. Jim Hazelwood presiding.

*Author’s note: Brad was my second cousin and also my friend.  I will miss him and all his antics at the annual Webb Reunion! He was “One of a Kind”! Being younger than me and about my late brother Don’s age, I always thought of him as a “kid”, of course, as you always do of your younger siblings and cousins! Mr. Williams was born May 17th, 1980, in Amory, Mississippi, to Harry and Shelia Petrie Williams.

He is survived by his parents, Harry and Sheila Petree Williams; wife, Dara Williams; children, Maddie, Drew, and Mason; brothers, Joseph “Jo” Williams (Courtney), and Jeff Miles; his grandmother, Verna Williams; nephews, Dillion, Braxton, and Chase.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ernie Williams, and Bus and Dean Petree.

Earlie Belle is survived by 4 children, Patte Greathouse, Rex Whitworth, Jim Whitworth, and Becky Whitworth; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends; and special grandson, David Sartin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gladstone Walker and Ida Mae Cagle Walker; and her husband, Calvin Adell Whitworth (1925 – 2001).
