Hamilton, AL – Mrs. Earlene Pugh Warren, age 75 of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Sunday, January 1st, 2017 in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Funeral Service, Friday, January 6th, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home.  Scott Montgomery officiating.  Burial in West Alabama Memorial Gardens, Gu-Win, Marion County, Alabama.

Earlene was born on April 2, 1941 in Guin, Alabama.  She was the daughter of Elic F. Pugh and Alice White Pugh; attended Marion Co. High School; previously employed with Munsingwear in Guin and was currently employed with Fayette Christian Academy Day-Care; she was the widow of Don Warren; and she was a member of Fayette Free Will Baptist church.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Warren of Haleyville, AL.; one daughter, Barbara Warren of Hamilton, AL.; one granddaughter, Aleigha Warren; one sister, Lorene Haney of Pea Ridge; one brother, Earnest Pugh of Guin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Donald “Don” Warren and parents, Elic F. Pugh and Alice White Pugh, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Thomas, Hazel Gann, Eunice Burleson and an infant sister, Cassandra Pugh; and three brothers, Richard, Hollis and Artis Pugh.

Mr. Arvil Alfred “Buck” Hollis

Guin, AL – Mr. Arvil Alfred Hollis, better known as “Buck” Hollis, age 96, of Guin, Alabama, passed away Friday, December 19th, 2014 at his residence.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20th, 2014 at the Norwood Funeral Home in Guin, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21st, 2014, at the Gu-Win Baptist Church in Gu-Win, Alabama. Bro. Mike Edwards and Bro. Tommy Roberts officiating. Burial in the Love Joy Cemetery.

Mr. Hollis was born July 3rd, 1918, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late John Glover and Fleata Stanford Hollis. He was a farmer and construction worker. After retiring, he started work at Guin Elementary School as the janitor. This was his favorite work as he loved the children and staff. When a new educational building was constructed a bronze plaque was placed on the front with the name Arvil A. Hollis Educational Building. He was a founding member of the Gu-Win Baptist Church and a Deacon of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. To know him was to love him.*

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Evelyn Woods Hollis, of Guin, AL.; 2 sons, Bobby (Louise) Hollis, of Guin, AL., and Bill (Ruth) Hollis, of Millport, AL.; 2 daughters, Virginia Jones, of Winfield, AL., and Irene (Roland) Whitehead, of Guin, AL.; 2 daughters-in-law, Scyglenda Hollis, of Tuscaloosa, AL., and Maedean Busbee Hollis Sandlin, of Winfield, AL.; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Felix Sizemore Hollis; 6 sisters, Jennie Hollie, Lizzie Grey, Argie Howard, Artie Kennedy, Rosie Lee Sizemore, and Annie Lou Hollis; 3 sons, Mack Hollis, Ricky Hollis, and an infant son; 1 daughter-in-law Eva Willingham Hollis; and 2 sons-in-law, Ellis Gilbert and Casey Jones.

Winfield, AL – Ms. Bessie Chambless Franks, age 89, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 29th, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Winfield, Alabama.

Ms. Franks was born October 18th, 1924, to the late William and Rosie Tidwell Chambless.  She was a housewife and attended school in Fayette, Alabama.  She lived on Colony Street in Winfield, Alabama for the last 40 years.  Bessie was an avid gardener and loved to participate in the home shopping network from Hamilton on WMTY TV.  She was a member of the Baptist Church at Gu-win, Alabama.

She is survived by 1 son, Ronald G. (Doris) Franks, Fargo, N.D.; 1 daughter, Cathy (Mike) Cannon, Beaverton, AL.; 3 grandsons, Shawn, Jason and Matt Franks; and several great-grandchildren; Joe Herron, long time and close friend; 2 sisters, Magdelene Brand, and Luvernia Hassle, both of Fayette, AL.; 2 brothers, Delmus Chambless of Guin, AL., and B. C. Chambless of Mississippi; 3 step-siblings, Justin, Tommy, and Teddy Chambless, all of Fayette, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosie Tidwell Chambless; and her late husband Eugene Franks.

Mr. Donald Travis Webb of Guin, Alabama, and of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, January 18th, 2009 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Visitation, Tuesday evening, January 20th, 2009, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Norwood Funeral Home in Guin, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Tim Alexander officiating. Burial in Webb Cemetery (Map) in Lamar County, Alabama.

Don was 57 years, 8 months, and 23 days old. He was born April 26th, 1951, in the Guin Hospital in Guin, Alabama to the late Grady L. and Eather Rye Webb of Hamilton, Alabama. A 1969 graduate of Hamilton High School, he was raised in Hamilton, Alabama. He married Janice Nichols on June 5th, 1970. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and going to auctions (especially finding bargains for he was an adept trader!), but I think most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was a dear Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother. He will be missed so much by us all.

Don is survived by his wife of 38 1/2 years, Janice Nichols Webb; his son, Ronnie Webb; his 2 daughters, and sons-in-law, Bobbie Webb Harris and Jacky, and Donna Webb Bryant and Sam, all of Guin, AL.; his grandchildren, whom he loved so dearly, Kristin and Lane Harris, Ryan Webb, and Kaylee Bryant, and step-grandchildren, Summer and Nicholas Bryant, and Makayla Kell; his 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice Webb Mills, of Hamilton, AL., Martha Webb White and Raymond, of Beaverton, AL., Peggy J. King, of Hamilton, AL., and Judy Webb Mays and Don Gann, of Hamilton, AL; nieces and nephews, Keith Mills and Judi, of Tuscaloosa, AL., Charles White and Sheri, of Winfield, AL., Melanie White Hughes and Jim, of Pelham, AL., Dr. Darlia King Morris and David, of Kansas City, MO., Gary Wayne Mays, Jr., of Hamilton, AL.; 2 aunts, Gladys Webb Morrow and Sarah Seay Rye; and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Grady L. Webb, July 8th, 1993, and Eather Rye Webb, November 27th, 1997; and 3 brothers-in-law, Gary Wayne Mays, Sr., February 28th, 1980, J.C. King, January 26th, 1981, and Guy H. Mills, February 17th, 2007.
