Born: August 9, 1924, in Rome Georgia, to the late Charles O. Reed and Mettie Jerusha Hicks Reed.
Died: Wednesday, August 28, 2019
Visitation: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Guin First Baptist Church
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, following visitation, at the church.
Graveside Service and Burial: 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Bethel Cemetery in New Hope, Alabama.
Survived By:
Husband of 63 Years: Thomas Gilbert Butler of Guin, AL.
Daughters:
Leanna Butler (Dennis) Salley of Hollandale, MS.
Marcie Butler of Concord, N.C.
Son: Jed Butler (“Daughter-In-Love” Terry) of Columbus, GA.

Bio: Born August 9, 1924, in Rome Georgia, to the late Charles O. Reed and Mettie Jerusha Hicks Reed. Mrs. Butler grew up in Rome, Georgia. She obtained a B.A. History, from Shorter College in Rome, GA, did graduate work in History at Columbia University in New York City, got a B.S. in Agriculture at the University of Georgia in Athens, and after her children were born, a Masters in Education at Auburn University. She married Thomas Gilbert Butler on June 10, 1956, at Koinonia Farm, Americus, GA. She taught special education 27 years in Lexington (Lauderdale County) and Winfield City Schools. She was a member of Guin First Baptist Church. She taught Bible Classes for 82 years, and with her husband, volunteered in Christian Missions for 42 years, including more than 20 states in the US and every continent except Antarctica.*
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Guin First Baptist Church or the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home.
