Born:  December 12, 1926, in Guin, Alabama to the late Jelks Hightower and Grace Akins Hightower and the husband of Emma Rowell Hightower.

Died:  Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at his residence.

Visitation:  10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Guin First United Methodist Church, Guin, Alabama.

Funeral Service:  12:00 Noon, following visitation, at the church.

Burial:  Guin City Cemetery.

Bio:  He graduated from Marion County High School in 1945 and also graduated from Massey Business College in Birmingham. He started his career as a bookkeeper for D.F. Mobley and later purchased the oil business which he ran for many years. While operating that business, he always helped those in need. He served as a member of Guin City Council for 25 years until the date of his death.  He was a founding member of the MCHS Band Boosters, a charter member of the Guin Civitan Club.  He served on the Advisory Board for State Bank & Trust for 27 years and was also a Mason.*

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to Amedisys Hospice, 412 S. Court Street Suite 302, Florence, Alabama 35630.

Bio:  He had lived in Guin most of his life. He became a Guin Policeman in 1990 and retired in 2015 having been Guin Police Chief for the last 10 years. He had served in the National Guard, was a former member of the Guin Rescue Squad, the Guin Masonic Lodge, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, had served as Constable and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.*

Author’s Note:  G.B. was retired from the Guin Police Department in Guin, Alabama where he served for many years as the Police Chief.  I also know that he and his wife Liz have been animal lovers and over the years have saved many homeless animals.  I think that is what made me like him from the first time I met him and Liz.
