Hamilton, AL – George Pearce, age 68, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 15th, 2018 at his residence.

Memorial service, 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 19th, 2018, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton, Alabama.

George is survived by his wife, Dianne Pearce; son, John Paul “Hawkeye” Pearce; daughter, Misty Sanderson; brother, Randy (Lisa) Pearce; grandchildren, Seth Cochran, Skylar Cochran, and Sara Cochran; nephews, Casey Pearce and Dave Pearce; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyte and Peggy Pearce.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the American Legion Sonny James Post 165.

Editor’s note:

George Pearce was a soft-spoken and humble man who lived very quietly in Hamilton, Alabama. He was a country song writer, musician, and a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.* He received many awards for his music and songwriting. Just one song I know that he co-wrote with another Hamilton native songwriter and musician, Bud McGuire was “Red River“. It was the #4 song on Side A of “The Closer You Get”, the seventh studio album by country music band Alabama, released in 1983.** I wish I knew all the songs that he wrote or co-wrote. I will list them here if anyone wants to submit them to me at jmays@49countynews.net.

To George’s family I send my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. May God Bless and Keep you as you go through this dark time I pray that He will be with you as you adjust and deal with your loss.

From me:  George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. I have known George since we were both children in Hamilton, Alabama. I have known that George was ill for some time so I wouldn’t call him back to go through the pain he’d been suffering even if I could. But I will miss him. I’ll miss his deep, slow way of talking. I’ll miss running into him at the Post Office and grocery store. I will miss just knowing that he lived quietly only a couple of miles from me. I was proud to call him my friend. Hamilton, AL – Michael Lewis, age 63, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 9th, 2018, at the North Ms. Medical Center in Tupelo, Ms.

Visitation, Friday, July 13th, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 p.m., at the Bexar Methodist Church. Burial in the Bexar Methodist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Lewis; daughter, Erica (Shaun) Parra; grandsons, Tanner Michael (Toni) Lewis and Tayten Blaine Lann; 3 great-grandchildren; his mother, Wilma Lewis; sisters: Betty Cason and Debbie (Mike) Chandler; brothers, Robert (Alma) Lewis and Jerry (Connie) Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hamilton, AL – James Joel Palmer, age 85, of Hamilton, ALabama, passed away Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at Country Place Senior Living in Hamilton.

Visitation, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10th, 2018, at the Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton, Alabama. Service, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 at the Marion County Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in  Love Joy Cemetery in Hamilton.

Joel is survived by 2 daughters, Judy Palmer (James) Wallace, and Belinda Palmer (Jim) McRea; and a host of grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Swindle Palmer.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Emerson Shotts; 1 daughter, Kathy (Andy) Stone; 3 grandchildren, Natasha (Jacob) Lunce, Holly (Justin) Lowery, and Andrew Stone; 7 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kenzi, Kayla, Carson, Callen, Graysen and Nolan; 3 sisters, Maxine Cagle, Neldean Emerson, and Jo Sloan; and 2 brothers, Bobby Shotts and Talmadge “Buster” Shotts.

Hamilton, AL – Dennis Eugene Byrd, age 60, Hamilton, AL passed away Monday, January 8th, 2018 at his residence.

He was born in Marion County Alabama on Thursday, May 16th, 1957 to Lesker Byrd and Audrey Williams Byrd.

Visitation, Wednesday, January 10th, 2018, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Marion County Funeral Home. Same day service, 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Andy Skinner officiating. Burial at Smyrna Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lesker Byrd; grandparents; brother-in-law, G.I. Stone; sister-in-law, Carolyn Byrd.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Judy Harris Byrd; sons, Steven Byrd (wife, Kim), Samuel Byrd (wife, Jennifer); grandchildren, Kyler and Skyler Byrd; mother, Audrey Byrd; siblings, Eddie Byrd (wife, June), Teresa Harris (husband, Roland), Grace Skinner (husband, Ricky), Carol Winsett (husband, Tim), Justin Byrd ( wife, Emy); a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
