Mr. Robert “Bob” Weeks, age 79, of Sulligent, Alabama passed away Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27th, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27th, 2012, at the Sulligent First Baptist Church Sanctuary.  Bro. Byron Pickering officiating.  Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery, Sulligent, Alabama.

Mr. Weeks was born on September 20, 1933 to the late Robert L. Weeks Sr. and Annie Mae Stanford Weeks.  He graduated from Sulligent High School and from Florence State College, where he played football.  He was active in his church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.  He was on many boards including the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Board, Lamar County Hospital Board, Lamar County Board of Directors – Alfa, and the Tombigbee Electric Board of Directors.  He was also inducted into the Lamar County Sports Hall of Fame.  Bob was an Army veteran and retired from Production Control at 3-M Company.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Weeks; 2 sons, Craig (Lisa) Weeks, and Alan (Rhonda) Weeks, both of Sulligent, AL.; 2 daughters, Nina (Jack) Dyer of Frostproof, FL., and Alice (Greg) Green of Calhoun, GA.; 11 grandchildren, Brian Weeks, Amber Weeks, Adam Weeks, Robbie Weeks, Chris Mikeal, Hannah Green, Douglas Dyer, Camille Weeks, David Dyer, Luke Green, and Isaac Green; and 5 great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Beth Weeks, Tyler Weeks, Aydin Weeks, Paytyn Weeks, and Analise Weeks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Weeks, Sr. and Annie Mae Stanford Weeks; 1 son, Robert Douglas Weeks; and 1 sister, Wynell Weeks Boyett.

In lieu of Flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217 Sulligent, AL  35586; or to any Ministry of you’re choosing such as: Finishing in Faith, Building Fund, Benevolence Fund, and Early Learning Center, Youth or any other ministry of your choosing.

Ms. Leathia Philips Williams (September 9, 1920 – December 17, 2011)

Ms. Leathia Williams, age 91, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Marion Regional Medical Center in Hamilton, AL. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Otts Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial in New Church Cemetery, Lamar County, AL.

Ms. Williams was born September 9, 1920 in Lamar County, AL to the late Luther and Tea Hollis Philips. She was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church, and a faithful member of Mt. Zion #2 C.M.E. Church in Hamilton, AL.  Ms. Williams enjoyed cooking and going to church.

She is survived by 3 sons, Oliver “Tiny” Williams, Hamilton, AL., Leon (Brenda) Williams, Hamilton, AL., and Luther Williams, Tacoma, WA.; 3 sisters, Mae Ola (Billy) Westbrook, Red Bay, AL., Ada Rush, Hamilton, AL., and Dorothy (Richard) Andrews, Chicago, IL.; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Tea Hollis Philips; her husband, Statewright Williams; 2 sons, Raymond Williams, and Bluther Williams; 4 brothers, Floyd Philips, Haston Bell Philips, Aritist Philips, and Charlie Philips; and 4 sisters, Lannie Marie Gardner, Lenia Mae Flemings, Ella Lee Marchbanks, and Minnie Cribbs.

Billy Carroll Paul, Sr., age 83, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011, with his family at his side, after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Sulligent First Baptist Church.  Bro. Byron Pickering and Jeff Chaffin officiating.  Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery, Sulligent, Alabama.

Mr. Paul was a native of the Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama area.  “Billy was an all around athlete at Sulligent High School participating on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He spent is first year of college at East Mississippi Junior College playing on the football team. He then attended Mississippi State University as a scholarship member of the baseball team. After graduation he entered the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant and served a tour in Korea. Following military service, he was employed by Frigidaire and General Electric companies in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1970 he returned to his native Sulligent to work as Personnel Manager for Hyster Company. Billy was an avid golfer and, after retirement, continued his lifelong interest in all sports, particularly following all of the MSU athletic teams.

Billy was inducted into the Lamar County Sports Hall of Fame in August 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulligent and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on various committees. He served as a member and President of the Sulligent Chamber of Commerce, President of Sulligent United Drive, and a Board Member of the First National Bank.*”

He is survived by his wife, Martha Pennell Paul, Sulligent, AL.; 1 sister, Joan Paul, Knoxville, TN.; 1 son, Billy C (Wanda) Paul Jr., Wren, MS; 1 daughter Jill (Billy) Maddox, Sulligent, AL.; 4 grandchildren, Billy C. Paul, III “Trey” and Victoria Paul both of Knoxville, TN., Justin Maddox, Tuscaloosa, AL., and Courtney Maddox, Charlotte, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Victor C. Paul and Pauline Gilmer Paul.
