Bio: Daisy was born on May 18, 1926 to the late Thomas and Molly Otts Birmingham. She was the youngest of 12 children. She married Roland Egger as a young girl and together they had 4 children, Donald, JoAnn, Kevin and Timmy. Daisy was a hard worker from the very beginning and worked at home to raise her children when they were young. She raised their food in the garden and worked in the corn and cotton fields to help provide for her growing family. She then began a career working at both McCoy Manufacturing in Sulligent and Munsingwear in Guin. While working she went to classes at night and earned her GED from Sulligent High School. She was also married to Bill Boman during this time. After her retirement from the garment plant, she began working as a Senior Aide for several years helping to distribute food to homebound seniors in the community. Her last and favorite job was working at Sulligent School in the offices of both the high school and the elementary school. She rarely missed a ballgame through the years as the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren began playing sports and was a fierce Blue Devil and Alabama fan. She was a faithful and active member of the Sulligent First Freewill Baptist Church for many years and later attended Crews United Methodist Church. Her signature chicken and dumplings were loved by many through the years at both family and church dinners. Daisy’s greatest love of all was her large and ever growing family. She needed no reason to call everyone for breakfast with biscuits and chocolate gravy or supper with peas, potatoes and cornbread. A real favorite was when she called and had homemade chocolate pudding hot and ready. She “raised” several generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many of their friends throughout the years. She was everyone’s “Mom” in Sulligent and if you went to her house you were welcomed with open arms and food. She ran a loving but tight ship for most (except for a chosen few, you know who you are) and she believed in taking care of things and making the most of what she had. It is said best by Grandson Michael Egger’s words, “Her truth was absolute and that was it! Not only did I learn, possibly a bit of her stubbornness, and to ‘turn off the light’, ‘close the refrigerator’ and ‘no long distance calls, ever’ but she taught me that there is plenty for everyone and everyone is welcome. She is responsible for my faith and the beliefs in my heart, kindness, equality, generosity and to do the right thing, always. She touched many, many people in the community and was loved by them all. I’m grateful she was my grandmother and comforted knowing she is in a better place today.”

Daisy is loved and missed and she leaves a void that will never be filled. No doubt that she is now walking, talking and praising Jesus with a clear mind and a healthy body. We were all blessed to have had her love and guidance. We will hold tight to our happy thoughts of this beautiful and amazing woman and pray that we all may live a life that she and her Lord will approve of so that we may see her again.*
