Cole_Linda_FranksLinda Franks Cole, age 61 of Hamilton, AL, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 from Hamilton First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. Bro. Eddie Davidson and Bro BJ Mills will officiate. Graveside service and burial will be Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 1:00 in Minor Cemetery located in Kimberly, AL. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 11am until service at 2pm.

Linda was born September 24, 1954 in Marion County, AL to Faye McCombs Parker and the late David Leamon Franks. She was a graduate of Athens State where she obtained a degree in Accounting. Linda was Partner CPA at Lawler and Cole CPA’s, LLC in Hamilton, AL and a member of AICPA. She was a devout Christian woman and attended church at Union Chapel Baptist Church. When not busy with numbers, Linda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling to the beach and reading daily devotions. Linda loved life and held her family near and dear to her heart.

Sulligent, AL – Mr. J.C. “Jake” Hawkins, age 73, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, August 19th, 2015 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, August 20th, 2015, at the Otts Funeral Home, in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 21st, 2015, at the Otts funeral home chapel.  Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. B.J. Mills officiating.  Burial in Pickle Cemetery, Sipsey Fork, Monroe County, Mississippi.

Jake was born October 24th, 1941, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Clarence “Driver” and Effie Pickle Hawkins.  He was of the Baptist faith.  Jake previously worked for Walker Manufacturing and also worked and retired from the Lamar County Commission.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, James (Rainey) Hawkins, Sulligent, AL.; daughters, Janice (Raymond) Spence, Beaverton, AL., and Patricia Lopez, Lillington, N.C.; grandchildren, Bryan (Jessy) Woods, Heather Spence, Jessie Hawkins, Austin Hawkins, Alicia Hawkins, and Charles Hawkins; brothers, Dennis (Grace) Hawkins, Sulligent, AL., and Bobby Hawkins, Sulligent, AL.; sister, Annie Lou Knight, Guin, AL.

Billy Joe Ives and Bro. James Godsey officiating.  Burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, (Shake Rag Road), Lamar County, Alabama.

William was born January 16th, 1948, in Vernon, Alabama, to the late William Junior and Evie Humbers Ives.  He was a Veteran, serving in both the U.S. Army and Alabama Army National Guard.  William attended Bedford School.  He was self-employed as a logger and he enjoyed fishing and camping. William was a member of Revelation Holiness.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Ives, Sulligent, AL.; 1 son, Robbie (Michelle) Ives, Sulligent, AL.; 2 daughters, Jody Ives, Sulligent, AL., and Tina (David) Merchant, Detroit, AL.; grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Wilson, Tammy Golden, Nikki Wilson, Heather Wilson, Josh Boshell, Tacy (Shane) Grant, Zach Merchant, Jimmy Ives, and Emily Ives; great-grandchildren, William Collins, Kaliegh Collins, Grace Biggerstaff, Jaxson Golden, Tyler Boshell, Rylee Boshell, and Loden Grant; 1 brother, Eddie (Donna) Ives, Sulligent, AL.; 1 sister, Joyce (Brooks) Hollis, Sulligent, AL.

Goss_Alavene*Sulligent, AL – Alavene Nail Goss, age 89, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Thursday, August 13th, 2015, at Generations of Vernon, in Vernon, Alabama.

Ms. Goss’s body was cremated, and there will not be no services.

Alavene was born April 26th, 1926, in Plant City, Florida, to the late Warren E. and Mary E. Fletcher Nail.  She loved fishing and sewing, and most of all, she took care of her family and her home. Alavene was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Goss, Bushnell, FL.; daughter, Tina (Dempsey) Hatcher, Vernon, AL.; grandchildren, Brad Goss, Becky (Jed) Jose, Reanna Goss, Shelby Goss, Keely Goss, Tisha (Bill) Pennington, Misti (Brett) Gentle, and Gavin (Lydia) Hatcher; great-grandchildren; Jordan Pennington, Denver Gentle, Kennady Gentle, Lily Hatcher, and Sam Hatcher; brother, Keith (Darlene) Nail, Plant City, FL.; and 1 sister, Olene Gibbs, Franklin, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren E. and Mary E. Fletcher Nail; her husband, Wilson Clifford Goss Jr.; 1 daughter, Deborah Haraburda; 2 brothers, Hollis Nail, and Buddy Nail; and 1 sister, Nelda Woodard.

Sulligent, AL – Shirley F. Duncan Minor, age 71, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Sunday, August 9th, 2015, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Visitation, Wednesday 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., at the Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, Wednesday, August 12th, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel following visitation.  Burial in the Pine Springs Cemetery.  Bro. B.J. Mills and Bro. Robert Stamps officiating.

Shirley was born May 30th, 1944, in Lamar County, Alabama, to Halen and Myrtle Franks Duncan.  She was a life long resident of Sulligent and worked at Reltoc in Beaverton, Alabama, and later was a bookkeeper at National Menswear, which was owned by her and her husband, Jerry. She was a member of Mulberry Springs Baptist Church, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry Minor; 2 daughters, Lisa (Ricky) Stanford and Stephanie Minor all of Sulligent, AL.; 3 grandchildren, Jared Stanford, Jala Stanford and (Cody Chambless), and Summer Wilson; great-granddaughter, Chloe Stanford; 2 sisters, Elaine McReynolds of Birmingham, AL., and Mary Jo (Jimmy) Taylor of Guin, AL.; and a host of nieces and nephews, many other relatives, and a multitude of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Halen and Myrtle Franks Duncan; 1 brother, Quinton Duncan; 1 sister Inez Cantrell; 3 infant sisters; and an infant brother.

James “Larry” Wallace, age 67, of Guin, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 at Golden Living in Winfield, AL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 am from Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8pm. 

Larry was born June 18, 1948 in Lamar County, Al to the late Curtis and Bessie Mae Woods Wallace. He was retired from 3M in Guin, AL. He leaves behind an extensive list of family members and friends. Larry was a member of First Baptist Church in Guin, AL
