Mr. Alexander Woods, age 73, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, March 11th, 2013, at Shadescrest Health Center in Jasper, Alabama.

Visitation 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16th, 2013, at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama, prior to service.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16th, 2013, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Alabama.  Bishop Foster Wallace will officiate.  Burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Woods was born March 6th, 1940 to the late Clyde and Selma Wallace Woods. He attended school in Lamar County, Alabama. At an early age, Alexander gave his life to God at Roxana Baptist Church.

He is survived by 3 brothers, Milton Woods, Richard Woods, Terry (Callie) Woods; 2 sisters, Mary Mae Woods, and Shirley Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Selma (née Wallace) Woods; 3 brothers, Willie Jean Woods, Willie T. Woods and Rufus Woods; and 1 sister, Louise Frank.

FLAG7aMr. Woodie Allen, age 92, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Friday, March 8th, 2013 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation, after 9:00 a.m., Friday morning at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel, Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 12:00 p.m. (noon), Friday, March 15th, 2013 at the funeral home.   Following the funeral service, a graveside service with military honors and burial in Gilmer Addition of Sulligent City Cemetery, Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama.  Rev. Andre Evans officiating.

Mr. Allen was born February 11th, 1921 in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Mack and Lonnie Brock Allen.  He worked at a saw mill and was a WWII United States Army Veteran.  Woodie was a member of Moscow CME Church.

He is survived by 1 brother, Dewey Miller, Gadsden, AL.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Lonnie Brock Allen; 2 brothers, James Edward Allen and Herman Allen; and 1 sister, Ruby Williams.

Mr. J.A. Shackelford, 85 of Vernon, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 am from Vernon Full Gospel Worship Center with Bro. James Godsey officiating. Military honor graveside service and burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8pm.

Pallbearers: Randy Lockhart, Steve Lockhart, Johnny Boone, Delbert Vice, Tom Goodwin and Steve Madison.

J.A. was born September 13, 1927 in Columbus, MS to the late James Allen “Jim” and Edna Lenora “Nonie” Thomas Shackelford. He served in the US Army, was a US Air Force retiree and also was retired from Emerson where he worked as a machinist. J.A. enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wrestling, coin collecting and playing soliatre.

Ms. Doris Crump Stanford, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory, Mississippi.

Visitation, Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. (Noon) – 2:00 p.m., December 26th, 2012, at Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 at Norwood Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Alabama. Bro. Tim Markham officiating. Burial in Webb Cemetery, Lamar County, Beaverton, Alabama.

Ms. Stanford was born September 21st, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Ray and Vista Simpson Manning. She attended Massey Business School in Birmingham, Alabama and worked in various secretarial positions at Hayes Aircraft, the Selective Service Board, and Federal Mogul. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church since 1964 where she served in many capacities. Doris was a dedicated and loving mother to her only child, the late Paul Crump, Jr. She was a resident of the Sulligent area most of her life and was a lady with a beautiful smile and worthy character that will be missed by family and friends.*

She is survived by a very special daughter-in-law, Becky Strawbridge Crump of Aberdeen, MS.; 1 granddaughter, Christy (Jimmy) Godfrey of Tuscaloosa, AL.; 1 step-daughter: Becky Tucker of Vernon, AL.; 3 step-grandchildren, Jody Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, and Jason Perkins, all of Vernon, AL.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vista Simpson Manning; her husband, Paul Crump, Sr. and her husband, Harold Stanford; 1 son, Paul Crump, Jr.; 2 step-sons, Dennis Stanford and Johnny Perkins; 1 step-daughter Jeannie Perkins; and 1 step-grandson Johnny Perkins, Jr.

Glenn McDaniel, age 72 of Hubbertville, AL and formerly of Lamar County, AL, passed away Thursday November 1, 2012 in Vicksburg, MS. Funeral services will be held Saturday evening at 6:00pm from Otts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Berea Church of Christ Cemetery in Hubbertville, AL. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 4-6pm.

Glenn was born December 7, 1939 in Lamar County, AL to the late Buford Bradley and Mittie Lee Thomas McDaniel. He is retired from Arvin in Fayette, AL and also worked for Glenn Manufacturing for 37 years. Glenn was an avid sports fan (Roll Tide) and loved baseball. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ in Hubbertville, AL.

Jerry Wayne Eads, age 67 of Sulligent, AL and formerly of Winfield, AL, lost his battle with cancer Friday morning, November 2, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 5, 2012 from Full Gospel Worship Center in Vernon, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. James Godsey and Bro. Lynn Godsey will be officiating. The body will lie in state at the worship center from 10:00am until service time at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-8pm.
Jerry was born September 24, 1945 in Marion County, AL to the late Mary Lou Elliott. He previously worked as a mechanic for Industrial Sewing Machines. As a hobby he enjoyed doing mechanical work on old cars. Jerry was a member of Full Gospel Worship Center in Vernon, AL.
