R.C. Gunnin, age 84, of Hackleburg, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, June 27th, 2012.

Birmingham, AL – Visitation, 6:00-8:00 pm., June 29th, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, Downtown Birmingham, Alabama, in St John’s Chapel.

Hackleburg, AL – Graveside service, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at Cedar Tree Cemetery, Hackleburg, Alabama.

Mr. Gunnin was born October 16th, 1927, to the late Lawrence and Icey Cleveland Gunnin in Hackleburg, Alabama and resided in Montgomery, Alabama.  He graduated from Hackleburg High School and Drawenes Business College in Birmingham, Alabama.  He was a Brick mason for 50 years, out of Local #1 in Birmingham, Alabama.  He owned Gunnin Masonry Company and was a “Boy Scout Master”, at Beechwood Baptist and Roebuck Park Baptist Churches in Birmingham.  He and his wife Joyce were Charter Members of Deep South Chapter of Family Motor Coach Association, and he served as President for two terms.  He retired from the University of Alabama in Birmingham’s Maintenance Department as a brick mason in 1993.

He is survived by 2 children, Larry W. Gunnin (Gina Keith) and Pamela Gunnin Burkart (Tom); 1 brother, James C. Gunnin (Frances); and 1 sister, Mary Ellen Roberts (Choyce); 4 grandchildren, Amanda Gunnin Dowell (Greg), Matthew R. Gunnin, Visha Kate Burkart, and Timothy E. Burkart; and 1 great-granddaughter, Samantha Dowell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lipsey Gunnin; and his parents, Lawrence and Icey Cleveland Gunnin.
