Cole_Linda_FranksLinda Franks Cole, age 61 of Hamilton, AL, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 from Hamilton First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. Bro. Eddie Davidson and Bro BJ Mills will officiate. Graveside service and burial will be Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 1:00 in Minor Cemetery located in Kimberly, AL. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 11am until service at 2pm.

Linda was born September 24, 1954 in Marion County, AL to Faye McCombs Parker and the late David Leamon Franks. She was a graduate of Athens State where she obtained a degree in Accounting. Linda was Partner CPA at Lawler and Cole CPA’s, LLC in Hamilton, AL and a member of AICPA. She was a devout Christian woman and attended church at Union Chapel Baptist Church. When not busy with numbers, Linda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling to the beach and reading daily devotions. Linda loved life and held her family near and dear to her heart.

Curtis L. Miller, age 68, of Vernon, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at his residence. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 4, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. from Providence Methodist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. James Godsey will officiate. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at Otts Funeral Home.Pallbearers will be Tony Merchant, Billy Miller, Dale Perkins, Bryant Perkins, Damon Blaylock, and Stevie Cantrell.

Curtis was born February 16, 1947 in Lamar County, Alabama to the late Bill and Janie McClan Miller. He attended Sulligent and Vernon Schools. Curtis previously worked as a logger and at Sanford Construction in Vernon.

Sulligent, AL – Ms. Sue Hawkins, age 81, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Wednesday August 6th, 2014, at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton.

She is the wife of the late Clytie ” Yank ” Hawkins. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.

Mr. Jimmy Paul Reeves
(September 4, 1932 – January 28, 2012)

Jimmy Paul Reeves, age 79, Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Northwest Medical Center, Winfield, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening, January 29, 2012, at the Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama.   Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Sulligent First Baptist Church, Sulligent, Alabama.  The body will lie-in-state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.  Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery.  Bro. Byron Pickering and Bro. Jeff Chaffin officiating.  Active pallbearers, Farris Reeves, Jessie Christian, Will Reeves, Ed Godfrey, Wyman Estes and Billy McClendon.  Honorary pallbearers, Deacons at First Baptist Church, Billy Ogden, Shelby Roberts, Wayne Carruth and Herbert Scott.

Mr. Reeves was born September 4, 1932, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Paul J. and Alice Belle Jackson Reeves.  He was a member of Sulligent First Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon.  Mr. Reeves worked as an accountant for Ogden Management and also worked 17 years with Liberty National Life Insurance Company until his retirement.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and he was a Mason.  He enjoyed hunting, playing golf and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McCarley Reeves, Sulligent, AL.; 2 sons, Jim (Bonnie) Reeves, Sulligent, AL., and Bill (Cathy) Reeves, Sulligent, AL.; 3 grandchildren, Aaron Reeves, Gainsville, FL., Ryan Reeves, Auburn, AL., and Holley Reeves, Sulligent, AL.; 3 brothers, Carl (Sybil) Reeves, Millport, AL., Jerry (Pat) Reeves, Sulligent, AL., and Brock (Linda) Reeves, Sulligent, AL.; and 2 sisters, Polly (Frank) Mixon, Beaverton, AL., and Barbara (Paul) Nolen, Winfield, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Alice Belle Reeves; and 2 infant brothers.

Billy Carroll Paul, Sr., age 83, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011, with his family at his side, after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Sulligent First Baptist Church.  Bro. Byron Pickering and Jeff Chaffin officiating.  Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery, Sulligent, Alabama.

Mr. Paul was a native of the Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama area.  “Billy was an all around athlete at Sulligent High School participating on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He spent is first year of college at East Mississippi Junior College playing on the football team. He then attended Mississippi State University as a scholarship member of the baseball team. After graduation he entered the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant and served a tour in Korea. Following military service, he was employed by Frigidaire and General Electric companies in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1970 he returned to his native Sulligent to work as Personnel Manager for Hyster Company. Billy was an avid golfer and, after retirement, continued his lifelong interest in all sports, particularly following all of the MSU athletic teams.

Billy was inducted into the Lamar County Sports Hall of Fame in August 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulligent and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on various committees. He served as a member and President of the Sulligent Chamber of Commerce, President of Sulligent United Drive, and a Board Member of the First National Bank.*”

He is survived by his wife, Martha Pennell Paul, Sulligent, AL.; 1 sister, Joan Paul, Knoxville, TN.; 1 son, Billy C (Wanda) Paul Jr., Wren, MS; 1 daughter Jill (Billy) Maddox, Sulligent, AL.; 4 grandchildren, Billy C. Paul, III “Trey” and Victoria Paul both of Knoxville, TN., Justin Maddox, Tuscaloosa, AL., and Courtney Maddox, Charlotte, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Victor C. Paul and Pauline Gilmer Paul.
