Baltimore, MD – April Lajune Rogers, age 40 of Baltimore, MD., formerly of Vernon, AL. passed away Sunday, October 15th, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00pm from Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday prior to the funeral service from 12:00pm until service at 1:00pm at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, AL.

Vernon, AL – usvetflagMr. Phillip Ray Wright, age 90 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Mr. Wright was born August 6, 1926, in Marion Co., AL, to the late Henry Ferris and Alma Elizabeth Wright. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in Europe during World War II. Mr. Wright taught for over 30 years and was principal at Hamilton and Vernon. He also ran a Ben Franklin Store for eleven years. Mr. Wright was an avid coon hunter and loved his grandchildren, great-children, his hound dogs, and his horses. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and talking about coon hunting.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Victor Wright and Lemuel Wright; and four sisters, Deamie Green, Sybil Mixon, Ozell Cannerday, and Drew Holloway.

Graveside services will be Saturday morning at 10:00 at Lamar Memory Gardens with David Sullivan and Jammie Turner officiating.

Active pallbearers will be John David Robertson, Stoney Price, Jimmy Hollis, Ken Hopper, David Crosby, and Brandon Speck. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Northam, Adam Swander, Dan Swander, and Jody Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Wright of Vernon, AL; two sons, Randy (Kathy) Wright of Decatur, AL and Kevin Wright of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Renee Wright of Vernon, AL; one brother, Jack Wright of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Jessie Neal of Texas; five grandchildren, Chad Wright, Jessica (Brandon) Speck, Kevin Wright, Christy Stalnaker, and Austin Landgraf; and four great-grandchildren, Carley Wright, Zaiden Wright, Spencer Speck, and Finley Speck.*

Vernon, AL – Beatrice “Bea” Peoples Reeves age 78 of Vernon, Alabama, formerly of Guin, Alabama, passed away Thursday, March 24th, 2016, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.

“Bea was born in Beaverton, Alabama, the daughter of the late James Floyd and Cora Carrouth White. She had lived in Guin and Lamar County, Alabama all of her life and was a member of the Guin First United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Crafts and Service Club. She had retired from Health Tex. She loved serving others by baking and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Reeves of Vernon, AL.; 2 sons, Wade (Tammy) Peoples of Guin, AL., and Greg (Dana) Peoples of Winfield, AL.; 1 step-daughter, Wendy Reeves of Huntsville, AL.; 1 step-son, Chris (Amy) Reeves of Trussville, AL.; 1 step-son-in-law, Neal Hall of Vernon, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Beau) Markham, Matt (Jessica) Peoples, Bethany (Nick) Clifton, Sam Peoples, Ann Elizabeth Davis, and Collins Davis; 3 step-grandchildren, Mary, Gracie and Micha Reeves; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Martha McReynolds, and Verla Stephenson both of Vernon, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Floyd and Cora Carruth; her husband, Jim Peoples; 1 step-daughter, Debbie Hall; 1 sister, Lottie Mae (Leon) White; and 1 brother, James Raymond White.

Services held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Guin First United Methodist Church with Burial in the Guin City Cemetery.Bro. Tim Alexander and Bro. Daniel Berry officiating.

Vernon, AL – Ms. Anna Frances Sneed, age 74, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, January 21st, 2015, in Noland Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 30th, 2015, at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.  Funeral service, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31st, at the Westside Church of Christ, Vernon, Alabama.  The body to lie-in-state at the church 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to service.  Rev. Delmar Garrison officiating.

Pallbearers: Venson Sneed, George Sneed, Eric Hudson, Glenn Owens, Jerome Coleman and Robert Shelly. Honorary pallbearers: Paul Ray Agnew, Tierre Agnew, Bobby Len Sneed, Johnny Mack Sneed, O’Neal Hollis and Troy Lee Hollis.

On February 28, 1940, in Guin, Alabama, Anna Frances Swanigan was born to the late Joe Robert and Selma Hamm Swanigan.  She grew up and moved to Florida where she worked in Citrus.  After returning to her home state, she worked as a homemaker, as a custodian for the City of Vernon, and served on the Kitchen Committee for Outreach Ministry at her church.  Anna was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Vernon.

She is survived by: sons: Johnny Otis Sneed, Gifford, FL., Johnny Mack Sneed, Memphis, TN., George Junior Sneed, Vernon, AL., Bobby Len (Regina) Sneed, Gifford, FL., Ricky Benard Sneed, Vernon, AL., daughters: Anita (Delmar) Garrison, Vernon, AL., Barbara (James) Shanklin, Caledonia, MS., Sharon Hudson, Vernon, AL., Patricia Williams, Columbus, MS.; sisters: Lurlean (Dilmus) Agnew, Fayette, AL., Ruby Lee Moore, Winfield, AL.; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Joe Robert and Selma Swanigan; brothers: Joe Roberts Swanigan, Jr. and Leeburn Swanigan; sisters: Emmaline Shelly, Julie Dean Swanigan and JoAnn Swanigan.*

Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 16th, 2014, at Otts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Shiloh Pinhook Cemetery. Pallbearers, Darrell Pennington, Chris Woodham, Jimmy Wade Rogers, Luke Madison, Rickey Jones, and Danny Wayne Smith.

Murray was born August 24th, 1926, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Claude Carl and Mary Ella Duke Wright. He worked at and retired from U.S. Steel after 29 years in maintenance. Murray was also a part of the 43rd Infantry Division in the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. Murray attended Oak Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jearline Smith Wright; step-daughter, Audrey Faye Carruth; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Carl and Mary Ella Duke Wright; 2 brothers, Joe Wright and Tunnel Wright; and 3 sisters, Burtie Kennedy, Margie Guyton and Ozine Chaffin.

She is survived by her son, Mitch (Nancy) Cantrell, Vernon, AL.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Rena Roberts Gault; and her husband, Lonnie Cantrell.

Ms. Rye was born April 18th, 1932, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late William Roger and Mamie Kate Milligan. She was a parts manufacturer and was married to the late Clayton B. Rye.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Cathy Fischer of Diessenhofen, Switzerland; 3 grandchildren, Caroline Fischer of Switzerland, Colin (Melody) Fischer of San Rafael, CA., and Robert Fischer of England, U.K.; 1 great-grandchild, Devon Fischer; and 1 sister, Patricia Wheat of Fayette, AL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton B. Rye, September 19th, 2008; and her parents, William Roger and Mamie Kate Milligan.
