Died:  Sunday, September 15, 2019, in the Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation:  4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Guin Church of Christ in Guin, Alabama.

Funeral Service:  5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, following visitation, at the Guin Church Of Christ.

Officiating:  Will White.

Burial:  Webb Cemetery, Lamar County, Alabama.

(August 1, 1928 – May 16, 2016)

A memorial service and interment of ashes for my first cousin, Audra Faye Carruth Cantrell (Aug. 1, 1928 – May 16, 2016) and her husband, Ottis Cantrell (Sept. 15 – 1922 – May 8, 2013) will be held Saturday, June 25th, 2016, at the Union Chapel Church (Map), in Lamar County, Alabama.

Audra was the daughter of the late Lundy and Ola Webb Carruth of Beaverton, Lamar County, Alabama and the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Dora Hilburn Webb.

They were preceded in death by one son, John Cantrell.

Interment will be in Webb Cemetery, (Map), (near Union Chapel) in Lamar County, Alabama.

Ms. Jewel McCleskey, age 84, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Monday, January 13th, 2014, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, Alabama.

Visitation, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, January 15th, 2014, at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15th, 2014, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel, Sulligent, Alabama. Burial in Webb Cemetery. Bro. Tim Markham and Bro. Dan Brown officiating. She is survived by daughters, Frankie Hawthorne, Sulligent, AL., Regenia Atkins, Columbus, MS., Paulette (Nick) Amalfitano, Leesburg, FL., Demeta (Dan) Brown, Northport, AL., Rhonda (Roy) Tucker, Hamilton, MS.; brothers: Josh (Jeanne) Seals, Beaverton, AL., Lanier “Dick” (Shirley) Seals, Beaverton, AL.; grandchildren: Janet L. Atkins, Susan Willis, Samantha Roberts, Ryan Tucker, Regenia Brown Parks, Nicholas Amalfitano and Chasity Jackson; 11 great-grandchildren; Companion and close family friend, Robert Crump.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vewis and Florence Seals; her husband, Joe Dave McCleskey; son, Larry Duncan; granddaughter, Tara Atkins; sister, Carolyn Rye; brothers, Gene Seals and Hershel Wayne Seals.

Ms. Doris Crump Stanford, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory, Mississippi.

Ms. Stanford was born September 21st, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Ray and Vista Simpson Manning. She attended Massey Business School in Birmingham, Alabama and worked in various secretarial positions at Hayes Aircraft, the Selective Service Board, and Federal Mogul. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church since 1964 where she served in many capacities. Doris was a dedicated and loving mother to her only child, the late Paul Crump, Jr. She was a resident of the Sulligent area most of her life and was a lady with a beautiful smile and worthy character that will be missed by family and friends.*

She is survived by a very special daughter-in-law, Becky Strawbridge Crump of Aberdeen, MS.; 1 granddaughter, Christy (Jimmy) Godfrey of Tuscaloosa, AL.; 1 step-daughter: Becky Tucker of Vernon, AL.; 3 step-grandchildren, Jody Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, and Jason Perkins, all of Vernon, AL.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vista Simpson Manning; her husband, Paul Crump, Sr. and her husband, Harold Stanford; 1 son, Paul Crump, Jr.; 2 step-sons, Dennis Stanford and Johnny Perkins; 1 step-daughter Jeannie Perkins; and 1 step-grandson Johnny Perkins, Jr.

Mr. Vesmer H. Avery, age 80, of Hamilton passed away November 4th, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Avery was born July 19th, 1932, in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Dorsey and Lou Crow Avery.  He was retired from 41 years with the Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Lurlene Avery; 2 children, Steve (Dianne) Avery, and Teena Nix; 3 grandchildren, Brad Nix, Heath Avery, and Angie Avery; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gary was born August 9, 1945, at Emma L. Bixby Hospital in Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan to John O. and Mary Nell Pope Mays. Gary married “Judy”, Judith Faye Webb Mays, May 31, 1968, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hamilton, Alabama. The ceremony was performed by Bro. James P. White.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, 8 months, and 29 days, Judith Faye “Judy” Webb Mays; 1 son, Gary Wayne Mays, Jr.; his parents, John O. and Mary Nell Pope Mays; 3 brothers, John W. Mays, Kenneth M. Mays, and Joe Mays; 1 sister, Peggy Ann Mays; several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and relatives. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law and father-in-law Grady L. and Eather Rye Webb and family who loved Gary as if he was one of their own children.
