Winfield, AL – Mr. Herbert Harold West Sr., better known as “Harold”, age 79, of Winfield, Alabama passed away on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Houston West and Patsy Bonds West. Mr. West was born in Jasper, AL, and has been a lifelong resident of Winfield. He was a 1956 graduate of Winfield City High School, and a 1960 graduate of the University of Alabama. His father started in the gas business as a Gulf Oil Distributor in 1934 and continued to work with Harold until 1985. Harold was first a Gulf Oil Jobber, then with BP, Citgo and Chevron. He served on the Presidential Advisory Board for Citgo for several years. He was also involved with the GOWMA (Gulf Oil Wholesale Marketers Association) for many years, serving as president for three years. Mr. West served on the Alabama Battleship Commission for eight years and was currently serving on the Winfield State Bank and Trust Board of Directors. Harold was a member of Delta Chi fraternity, the Winfield Lions Club and the Winfield Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Wilson West; a son, Herbert Harold West Jr. “Hal”, (Kay) of Birmingham, AL.; daughters, Mitzi Carole West, (Forrest Johnston) of Winfield, and Allyson West Sutter (Dan) of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Katherine Edwards West, Margaret West Casey (Ryan), Hallie Elizabeth West, William Huston West, and Andrew West Sutter; a brother, William Riley “Bill” West (Linda) of Fairhope, AL.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 from the Winfield First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Brother Earl Freeman will officiate. Visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday night, June 11th, 2018 at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Winfield First United Methodist Church or to the Northwest Alabama Kidney Foundation at State Bank and Trust.

Visitation, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.,  Sunday, February 19th, 2017, at the Bowen Funeral Home in Winfield, Alabama.  Funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Sunday following the visitation, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.  Brother Venlon Bradford officiating.  Burial in the Goodwater Cemetery.

Bobby Lacy, Brad Cunningham, Greg Moore, Jason Norris, Greg Guin, Chris Newman, Mark McDonald and Tony Nicholson serving as active pallbearers; Dale Spruiell, Duell Holloway, Donald Shelton, Jeff Bostick, Bob Henger and Solon Cunningham serving as honorary pallbearers.

Ms. Robertson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, devoting more than 40 years to her profession; most recently serving as the Director of Nurses at Winfield Carraway Hospital for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Robertson; son, Jeff (Kerri) Robertson; grandchildren, Kelly Rose Lindsey, (Matthew), Kensey Robertson, and Lane Robertson; great-grandson, Becton Brown; sisters, Danny Lou Spann, Bonnie Campbell, and Judy May; brothers, Benny Spann and Billy Mack Spann; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Roston Spann and Myrtie Bell Webster Spann; sisters, Polly Smith, Sarah Bull, and Reba Wheeler, and a brother, Glenn Spann.

The family extends special thanks to all of the wonderful nurses and staff at Fayette Long Term Care Center for their kind and loving care.  In lieu of flowers, a nursing scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Ms. Robertson, the family request that donations be made to the Citizens Bank of Winfield in memory of Ms. Robertson.

mills_helen_juanitaWinfield, AL – Ms. Helen Juanita Wood Mills, age 80, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, February 7th, 2017, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Monday at the funeral home.

Ms. Mills was a lifelong resident of Winfield, Alabama.  She was co-owner of Dodd Furniture with her husband Roy J. Mills, for over 38 years.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Mills, and Michael Mills; 1 grandson, Christopher Humbers; 1 sister, Ruth Thatenhurst; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy J. Mills; her parents, Columbus L. Wood, and Lilly Eugenia Burleson Wood; 3 brothers, Sherman Wood, Junior Wood, and Kenneth Wood; and 2 sisters, Edith Smith, and Betty Wood.

Ms. Powell was born December 8th, 1931, to Wilbur G. and Victoria Webb Fowler.  Ms. Powell was a member of Winfield First Baptist Church and was retired after 25 years of service, from the Winfield Cotton Mill.

Roger Hubbert, age 73, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away December 23, 2011 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Visitation, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. until service time, Monday evening, December 26, 2011, at the Winfield Church of Christ, Winfield, Alabama.  Funeral service, 7:00 p.m., Monday night, December 26, at the Winfield Church of Christ.   Burial following Tuesday, December 27, 2011, in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win, Alabama. James Wyers, Vance Hutton, and Dale Hubbert officiating.  Pallbearers, Keith Dillard, Wes Hubbert, Chad Lawrence, Lathan Lawrence, Bryan LeMasters, Doug Gullion, Sam Gullion, Drew Gullion, Frank Hubbert, and George Hubbert.

Mr. Hubbert was born November 8, 1938, in Hubbertville, Alabama, to Tommy and Gladys Hubbert.  He graduated from Winfield High School in 1957, and attended Freed Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee from 1957 until 1959.  Mr. Hubbert began working for Continental Conveyor and Equipment in 1961 until his retirement in 2002.  He was a faithful Minister of the Gospel for almost 50 years and was currently the minister of Brock Church of Christ at the time of his death.*

He is survived by his wife, Pat Hubbert of Winfield; 2 children, Dale (Cindy) Hubbert, Priceville, AL., and Rogena (Keith) Dillard, Winfield, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Whitney (Chad) Lawrence, Decatur, AL., Katie (Doug) Gullion, Somerville, AL., Wes Hubbert, Decatur, AL., Allyson (Bryan) LeMAsters, Madison, AL., Julie Hubbert, Priceville, AL., and Karla Dillard, Winfield, AL.; 5 great-grandchildren, Lathan, Macy, and Amelia Lawrence, and Sam and Drew Gullion.
